FDIC insurance does not prevent a bank from failing. It proetcts the depositor. But being "too big to fail" may protect a bank, especially when it is one of many in that situation (e.g., 2008-10).

if you're saying sleazy banks (mostly foreign) tend to prop up sleazy businessmen, you are right.

That may be a big story of 2026.

I don't think that's quite right, or really the whole story.

If you owe a modest amount, the bank will let you fail and go bankrupt. It won't be hurt. If you owe a LOT, the bank will work with you because if you fail, the bank might too. (P.S. I worked for the Fed and then for a good sized bank).

You're right, and I'm with you.

But, my point is how much should people pay? What is fair?
If a person makes $20 million, is 30% fair? Or 50%? Heck, or 90%; he'she would still have $2.0 million.

I'm an amateur economist and I have no idea how to define "fair." I do know what isn't fair. lol

According to people close to him, he does. And it has a sickening smell. But, yes, he doesn't much care about anyone else.

I agree with what I think you're trying to say. I don't quite understand the part about having billions in debt and then being able to borrow off of the debt. But, yes, the rich can borrow off of their assets. And, yes, the system is stacked for the rich. But, no, you're not better off being poor.

No it doesn't. I fully support raising federal taxes on higher income and wealthy people. I am neither I but believe I should be paying higher taxes; the last several tax cuts benefitted me.

But, I would say we should pay more, not our fair share. I don't know what a "fair share" is.

The headline is misleading. The story is less about the government collapsing and more about the food chain collpasing, or being disrupted. And more about how that will hurt the poorer countried most.

The only thing he should decide is whether he wants a coffin or an urn.

The Iran War Could Collapse the United States in the Next Six Months 47,900,000 Americans are already food insecure and our food supply chain is at risk in a way Americans have never known

Good article. Good food for thought.

Hi Laura, How the heck are you? Spring must be in the air down your way.

Let's put it this way. I wasn't a genius. Still aren't. But my math skills were (and still are) infinitely better than Trump's.

The Iranian military must be extraordinary. According to the Master of Math, and Stable Genius, their Military has been 100% destroyed. Yet they retain the ability to launch a missile, send drones, or drop mines.

And all this time I thought if you reduce something by 100% you’d have none of it.

A lot of surveys end with solicitations for money and/or result in your being added to future solicitations.

Is it safe to run at night? Cool, but dark. Won’t see them.

I realized I misled you. When I said country home, it meant a home in the woods, not another country.

Are you from Germany? When I reply sometimes I get a message saying your message was written in German.

Snakes don’t have watches. You are brave.

I didn’t know there was a safe time when they’re not out.

My dog goes after snakes. Freaks me out. Luckily Maine has no poisonous snakes. Unluckily we are not that far from NH. And snakes don’t read state signs.

I am a Boomer. Lived through Vietnam War times. Understand accidental death of civilians. Don’t understand the most sophisticated country striking first, having time to plan its attacks, and hitting an entire school of students. Inexcusable. And not owning it or apologizing. Disgusting

I’m in the United States of Russia. In Mass now but have a house in the woods of Maine. Mostly garter snakes, water snakes, milk snakes.

My father lived in Tucson. You guys have poisonous snakes.

I guess you can learn to stay away from them. Most of the time.

I almost said something like that. If I can’t see it and know it’s not there, I’m ok. But I’ve had them in our country house. And all around it.

Luckily they’re not poisonous. But…
