AI is not therapy.
It never will be.
Therapy requires a therapist.

I had no idea there was a national DBT certification! That’s great, I’m a big fan of DBT!

If they’re interested in Antioch University, I went to the Culver City location (there’s a few)and they take students on a quarter system. They would definitely be able to join for fall, possibly summer semester. I’m an MFT but they also offer the LPCC track. Happy to answer questions if they want!

Addiction treatment should NOT be criminalized.

I can’t believe I have to say that, but that’s what some in Oklahoma want to do.

This cannot happen.

Having emotional reactions to whatever is currently happening is normal. It makes us human.

Psychoeducation from a therapist:

Empathy is β€˜the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.’ We cultivate compassion, acceptance, and community through empathy.

The term β€˜toxic empathy’ is weaponizing empathy. Stop.

My dream is still increasing access to mental health services. National licensing for therapists to practice freely over state lines. Dreams give us hope. My hope is for better. Everyone deserves better.

I do contact companies to get my profiles taken down when I’m aware of this happening. Therapists and those trying to contact therapists need to know this happens.

Please be aware, and this has happened to me at least twice, that there are companies that copy some/all of therapist’s info without our knowledge. Then you’re contacting some company that we are NOT connected to. This makes it so much harder for people to get the care they need.

As a therapist who has written and spoken about the importance of community and mental health, we all NEED community. Social media can provide community, but doesn’t replace in person. In person community building is key.

Why are social services important to mental health?

Love this! I was born in Kansas City and, fun fact, my kindergarten teacher was also a Chiefs cheerleader at the time and we all thought that was the coolest!

Anxiety and depression symptoms are increasing yearly.

At least a third of us feel lonely.

The best predictor of successful therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist. The relationship itself is healing.

AI is NOT therapy.

I really like ACT and have used DBT a lot in the past. My training started with depth psychology, and mindfulness is a powerful tool. The right mix of tools for each client is so important.

That’s great, I also use EMDR! A reason I align with CBT trainings is that, according to the Beck Institute, if another modality compliments treatment, they say to use it too.

Totally understandable! I think we all will go through that to some extent as we navigate challenges together. I’ve noticed CBT get criticized for severely invalidating clients however, or put a β€˜positive spin’ on things, and that I would highlight is not CBT. It’s important to validate always.

A therapist you have a strong rapport with can be so helpful to everyone’s support system. Therapists have resources, are connected to the medical system and can advocate for you, and can offer emotional support while helping you navigate current and future circumstances. #therapistsky
