SPC has the whole area in a hatched 45% risk area, and noted in their most recent discussion that an upgrade to moderate risk (level 4 of 5) is likely for Monday. We could see a significant severe weather outbreak on Monday afternoon, with damaging winds and strong tornadoes possible. #rva #vawx
#RVA is under a Day 3 enhanced risk for severe weather on Monday.
An enhanced risk this far out is no joke and is usually an indicator of a significant severe wx outbreak. A strong front could bring damaging straight line winds and strong tornadoes. #vawx
A Day 4 >30% severe weather risk is pretty huge and could translate into an enhanced (level 3) or moderate (level 4) severe weather risk assuming the forecast holds up.
The good news is even though temps will crash, this isn't going to turn into heavy snow. #rva #vawx
If you liked yesterday's weather (you probably didn't), you'll really like Monday's weather (you won't). Another strong front will bring another huge temperature crash, but also a significant severe weather threat - we could be talking a major #tornado threat. #rva #vawx
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, there has never been a 24-hour period where a high temperature of 89° was followed by accumulating snowfall the next day. #RVA #vawx
The snow has mostly moved out. It may not stick around very long as temperatures will rise a little this evening, especially after the skies clear. However, there could be some refreezing after dusk and roads could be icy tomorrow morning. #rva #vawx
The snow should quickly move out of the area during the next couple of hours, but don't be shocked to find 1-2 more inches of accumulation on grassy surfaces before then. #rva #vawx
33 degrees and snowing very heavily in Chesterfield, VA. About an inch on the ground.
May I remind you that it was 89 yesterday? #rva #vawx
I seriously cannot recall another time where we had heat index values of 91-92 degrees and snow the very next day.
Unfortunately, yes. Sigh.
This time yesterday we had a heat index of 91° in #RVA.
Now we have a wind chill of 29°. #vawx
Geronimo! #rva #vawx
Temperatures in Chesterfield, VA today:
0000: 78°
0800: 68°
1030: 53°
Now: 50°

He's coming back...
With the caveat that ENSO modeling is notoriously less than reliable during the spring, there is a pretty high chance of a strong El Niño event this summer. While this would suppress Atlantic tropical cyclone activity, it could be quite hot in #RVA. #vawx
Remnants of #Nuri ( #03W ) – Tropical Cyclone Advisory #5 (FINAL): 1200 UTC 12 March 2026: Nuri degenerates into a trough of low pressure… …This is the last advisory…

Probably won't be *quite* as dramatic but still, a 30ish degree temperature drop is still pretty shocking
It's going to be shocking, to say the least. I'll go into work with it being near 70 and leave work with it in the 30s.
88 degrees with a heat index of 90 at Chesterfield Courthouse. Absolutely insane for mid-March.
It's up to 87 at RIC Airport, which bumps our new temperature record up a bit more. #rva #vawx
The temperature at RIC airport has hit 86 degrees. Not only is this a record high temperature for today, but it is also the warmest temperature on record for any date between November 1 and March 11 (it was also 86 on 11/1/74 and 11/15/86). #rva #vawx
Case in point, this is the 24-hour temp change graphic from the 06Z GFS. Most of the state has temp differences of 45-50° between today at 2pm and tomorrow at 2pm.
Today at 2pm it will be in the 80s, which means yes, tomorrow at 2pm it could be in the 30s. #rva #vawx
#RVA is going to see all four seasons in just two days. Temps will soar into the upper 80s today. Strong storms with heavy rain are likely tonight/tomorrow before temps CRASH (from 70s to 30s) tomorrow evening, and precip will likely end as a burst of heavy snow (no accums likely). #vawx

There is a backdoor cold front moving westward over eastern VA, and the temperature difference is quite obvious. Temperatures are pushing 70 in #RVA, but are in the upper 30s to low 40s on the Eastern Shore and South Hampton Roads. #vawx
WPAC Tropical Weather Outlook - 3/6/26: Invest #95W could become a short-lived tropical cyclone and bring some heavy rainfall to #Guam and the #Marianas during the next few days. willweatherrva.beehiiv.com/p/wpac-tropi...
First of all, Bluesky thinks you replied to me in German for some reason.
It's moderate pretty much everywhere due to particulates from wildfire smoke filtering in from the plains, but DC is actually on the other side of the frontal boundary. It's in the 40s in parts of Maryland.
Just in case you didn't know just how sharp the temperature gradient is with the trough currently draped over the region - at 2:00pm, it was 80 degrees in #RVA. It was only 54 degrees in DC. #vawx
