Cal Budget Center weighs in on the House budget proposal:

And voted in the early a.m. after hiding their deliberations in the middle of the night. They might think we all were less likely to pay attention, but when people lose their health care, groceries, & other supports the only thing people will remember is HOW their Congress members voted, not WHEN.

And these are just a few of our initial questions that we think legislative leaders should ask as they work to finalize a 2025-26 state budget.

What questions do you have?

Why is the Gov. prioritizing $400 million in tax breaks for film companies while he's cutting health care for Californians and...seriously...proposing nothing else on tax policy at a time when Congress is poised to give away $4+ trillion in tax breaks to high-income households and corporations?

Why do health and human services programs have to shoulder the brunt of the shortfall...with $5 billion in cuts?

Why is the administration using vague and undefined terminology to cut health care and other services for adults who are undocumented?

There are a lot of questions to ask about the Governor's proposal? For instance...

Why does it say there is a $12 billion shortfall when $4.5 billion of that is put aside in a discretionary reserve fund (meaning the real shortfall is $7.5 billion)?
