When SF decided it needed only to be in conversation with itself, things got bad.
And granted, there's some good meta SF out there ("The Gernsback Continuum" tops that list), it's mostly inside baseball and tiresome.
NOT the most exciting? Isn't Master Plan the holy grail in terms of being most unlikely to have had any surviving episodes due to its specific circumstances?
Protest, go on strike, share your experiences, support each other or just take care of yourself so you have strength to carry on. ❤️
Remembered this character I drew a while ago... the fight is never ending, right?
I know she is way too cute for the rage we are all feeling. But still, she's fighting.
Happy (?) international women's day.
Everyone who tried to draw around me and started drawing LOVED it at the beginning because of their QUICK IMPROVEMENT. Then quit when they hit The Wall™️.
But it's when you hit The Wall™️ that you NEED to push through with practice!! And you gotta do it for yourself, because it's ALWAYS worth it! 😤

i can't watch tv shows unless they directly teach me, a grown adult, important lessons about being nice and getting therapy. this is the sole purpose of art and entertainment
DOCTOR EVIL?!
Are we getting an Austin Powers crossover???

The phrase “fall from grace” used to apply to good families facing financial hardship or artists and sportsmen stumbling after a good start. It can apply also to people who did good things making a mistake. It doesn’t apply to people doing crimes, who were never good, who were frauds and liars. 2
“…precipitating his dizzying fall from grace…”
Can we drop this phrase. When a criminal is exposed as a criminal, it’s a thing. It’s worth reiterating that this language is never used when poor criminals get busted. No dignity is given to them. That’s the US Class System.1/
bsky really is tumblr (derogatory) in the sense so many people the good old fashioned 2014 tumblr era 'my pet peeves and aesthetics are moral principles and I will use this delusion as an excuse to get mad at people' posting
Watching a bunch of breadtubers live stream the last presidential election on twitch/youtube and talking about the destruction of democracy like its a raid in World of Warcraft while i worried that i might lose my house in the next 4 years really cured me of respecting leftist youtubers

When a Great Person is born in Civilization 6
Watching it myself, the video conflates "art with a cynical perspective" and "art made for cynical reasons, like legacy sequels" under the same umbrella, but I don't think they're quite the same thing? If anything I think it'd be more interesting to focus on a critique of JUST the latter one.
Honestly I've heard really compelling arguments that people love Firefly because was short enough to not have any "bad" episodes, that whatever direction people imagined it could've gone in would be better than the actual direction a full series took.
Surprise face reveal!
I know for me I got a lot out of watching Malcolm in the Middle recently for helping to put things into perspective. It's a sitcom with a genuinely cynical worldview (the tagline is literally "life is unfair") but it felt cathartic to watch a show where not everything works out at the end.
...yet now we must banish "cynical art" away from its dirty influence?
These kinds of videos confuse me because "cynical art" has always been made and it's never impeeded ones about "hopeful futures." Star Trek, the topic Jessie's built her identity around the most, was coming out around the same time you were getting grim dystopias and cynical cyberpunk stories...
Ethan Winters face reveal
Goofy saw me when nobody else did.
I'm willing to give #Lanterns a shot, but...it's not a good sign when two Green Lanterns not using any of their Green Lantern powers in this trailer has already made people think of this classic tweet:
green lantern tv show looking more surf dracula than anything has ever surf dracula'd before
I just don't understand making comic book shows and movies if you just hate comic books.
This is the endpoint of ~HOPEITY HOPE~ as a mandate for genre fiction storytelling
ANOTHER ONE???
Oh of course it's from Ian goddamn Levine.
