Two Phoenix birds in a tan ochre flying against a ruby red background of trailing peonies, lotuses and plum blossoms.

The mythical Phoenix is a symbol of harmony, transformation and peace in Chinese culture. I wanted to feature the Phoenix along with some symbolic flowers in my Chinese Heritage Revival design, my take on the traditional Arts & Crafts design.

A cream coloured snake with a fuschia eye is covered in a rainbow of multicoloured flowers and leaves, including chrysanthemums and gladiolus which are lucky flowers for the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025.

Happy Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025!

The Lunar New Year is a great opportunity to get things in order you didn’t get around to for the new year, such as all that cleaning, goal setting and habit tracking.

Wishing you a fresh new year to declutter the old and make space for the new!

Set in profile against a busy starscape, a regal woman exhales a frosty breath that starts as a delicate spiral before dissolving overhead. Her skin is pale and her wardrobe decidedly wintry, mostly white with pearlescent accents. She wears an ornate headdress, detailed in ornamentation, all swirls and flourishes. Her gown made of feathers and snowflakes opens high on the chest to expose more pale skin but she seems unaffected by the chill of winter.

A breath of the fantastic…while this could pass for a SFF illustration, it was actually painted for the family holiday card in 2011.
