And honestly, I don't see a huge difference between learning about a band because a song clip was used in a TikTok video and me learning that I thought White Zombie kicked ass because Beavis & Butthead watched a clip from Thunder Kiss '65 on MTV.

If I heard a song from The Smiths on the radio and liked it, I had to figure out what album it was on and buy it if I wanted to hear more and figure out if they were a band for me, but now I could jump on one of a million apps like YouTube or Spotify and find the whole catalog in an instant.

That is true, too! The flipside of this whole deal other thing that's different with today is that IF you do learn about something that interests you, it's actually a lot easier now to find it if you really want to.

When I grew up, we were at the mercy of whatever TV channels or radio stations chose to play and they were run by old people so they replayed the shit they liked all the time, so we got exposed to all kinds of old entertainment because it was that or nothing at some hours of the day.

Also kids grow up now in a world of algorithmic platforms that only recommend they check out things that are already like things they've just seen so yeah, they probably wouldn't have heard of Elvis unless they watched something tangentially related to him already and got it recommended to them.

Adults don't know what kids like most of the time either so it's only fair.
