Yes. I cage some of the monarch caterpillars in my garden each year to give them a chance at making it to butterfly stage. (Most of the ones left in the garden get eaten by wasps, which are important pollinators.)

Sorry to hear that! I started letting the milkweeds overtake my flower garden 5 yrs ago after one of my hs students shared her biology project about monarchs with me (had no idea before that). I get visitors all summer now here in Maine! If you can grow some native milkweed I’ll bet they will come.

This male beauty eclosed yesterday afternoon and flew off at about 5:30 pm towards the setting sun. The milkweed pods are exploding with seeds, we’ll be ready for next year.

There won’t be a Silicon Valley to determine the direction of without physicists and engineers. That’s the problem. We need both, but in the US our kids are not being taught rigorous math, or civics for that matter. I heard “Achilles heel is education system” and I fully agree.

He didn’t say they are superior, but they are necessary for high tech industry. Healthy society needs both, but in US we have dumbed down math ed to the point that too many of our students don’t have the skills to pursue STEM PhDs. Innumeracy in the US is a ticking time bomb.
