Now spinning this Nat Geo "Sounds of the World Recording" of sea shanties. Saw this at the record store and it was obviously coming home with me. Pristine condition! As if no one ever listened to it!?! If you need shanties (you do!) this is def a great option!

Now spinning. Elvis Costello's debut. Clean early US pressing ('78-'80) with Watching the Detectives. I'm guessing this leaves the sound a bit thinner than the UK version, which I'd like to find. Probably makes a big difference here.

Its quite disturbing seeing an otherwise intelligent man who has not grown or felt at all since he was a teenager, and who now occupies the summit of power.

Now spinning a mid 70s record club edition of Steely Dan's Can't Buy a Thrill. Great shape. Very listenable. But I'd love to find a better pressing. Saw them around '95 at the Gorge in WA. Best venue I've ever seen.

Yeah, i think they were after ol' Neil for both songs. But "Alabama" was the more recent dig from Neil.

I like the Dolky Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt version. But i wish thry hadn't dropped the lyrics about wanting to get high. I'll check out Lang's!

The one I have is probably from the 80s. It's in quite good shape. Was i think $25 or thereabouts. So, it can be done!

The band members themselves didn't support Wallace and didn't view the song as pro-Wallace. But it's fair to say that the reformed, post-crash, Skynrd has courted a more right-wing audience.

Yeah, it's certainly one of favorites. I need to pick up Rust Never Sleeps on vinyl!

Yeah, "Alabama," but then there's the line about a southern man not needing Neil around, so it seems like a response to both.

"In Birmingham they love the governor. (Boo! Boo! Boo!)" can be read several ways. Anyway, the song seems to me to be about not painting the South with a single broad stroke.

Alien: Earth channels Blade Runner way too hard. Or maybe not hard enough. M. Emmet Walsh would make this show.
