(I almost thought Pete Buttigieg said something compelling, but then I listened further, what a relief.)

"With enough effort and patience, everything is flammable" in a circle of flames on a round sticker, on the back of a street sign, brick building visible in background with shrubs

True.🔥🔥🔥

...does make me pretty sad, since at this point it kind of is us against the world. Which, fine, but that would feel a lot less lonely if we actually built on the camaraderie that such a small, dedicated group of people really ought to have.

That's definitely my experience here in Seattle too. I'm just (modestly) grateful that there's at least more people here who mask indoors than anywhere else I've been in the US in the past 2+ years. But yeah, the fact that there isn't that instant recognition/kinship between strangers who mask...

Come to the Nonbinarian bookstore in Brooklyn we’re mask required and if you show up on a day I’m working and you mask without me having to ask you then you’ll immediately be in my good graces

And when you think about it, so many countercultures are now just shallow conformist niche markets, so one built instead on communal health across all differences, sharing in this practice of resistance, let's go.

Yes yes, hello for sure, but the nod is lovely too, I think every gesture matters 💞

Oh, that's interesting, here in Seattle I would say that unfortunately almost no one masks when they are sick, unless they already mask as a general practice, so I think it's more likely trauma that makes people reticent.

But I, for one, am ready for connection.

Then again, so many people are so traumatized by the endlessness of structural abandonment in everyday experience that it's hard enough just to go out in the world at all, so it makes sense that this trauma makes people more wary, rather than open to connection.

I wish people wearing masks in public would recognize one another more, it seems to me that communal health is as much of a connection to build a counterculture as any other, but we can't build anything if we don't at least say hello to one another.

“Literally from the beginning of concentration camp history, every country that had concentration camps would argue, ‘No. These aren’t really like those other camps,’” making the claim that their regime of mass-incarceration was somehow justified on the basis of public safety, rather than cruelty"

Seattle, it's been snowing all day. Yes, all day! Luckily it's not sticking to the streets or sidewalks, but we get all this crisp air and what's more fun than walking in the snow when you know it won't last, yes, I'll take it.🌨️❄️🤍❄️🌨️

Global Health Workers Describe Impact a Year After Trump Admin Shut Down USAID The last year saw avoidable deaths and increased suffering for some of the poorest and most vulnerable populations.

A year after USAID was shuttered and funding was abruptly cut off, there has been an increase in avoidable deaths and suffering for some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. Data that might confirm that has largely vanished from public view.

Bright red tulips, or almost pink actually, yes, bright pink tulips, white at the base, lush green leaves, in a pot with flowers, mostly blue and green, I found it on the street, a succulent on the left, rosemary on the right, an azalea behind, no flowers yet, brick building across the street, everything on a round glass table

So glad I put these tulips on my balcony so I can gaze at them every morning🌷🌷🌷

For weeks now, I've shared information about HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS protesting ICE REGULARLY. So much so that whole states like Kansas and Texas are rolling out LAWS to sanction schools and laws to criminalize TEENAGERS. Please let's be serious.

So @asanews.bsky.social emailed its membership its refusal to put a petition to Boycott, Divest, & Sanction Israel up to a vote, one that already had 438 signatures. This undemocratic decision, they wrote, is because they're worried about membership dropping.

Well do I have news for you.
