I hope every disabled person in school in #NovaScotia has a fantastic March Break.
Everyone cutting funding to the disabled community; I hope you don't.
@msvugraduate.bsky.social @unionmaidns.bsky.social @halifaxbloggers.bsky.social @moneyandmentalhealth.org @annaquon.bsky.social @tammyjfrcowbay.bsky.social Turns out the recent NS Budget is going to have impacts on the Disability Community. See here worthmatters.blogspot.com/2026/03/conc... for why
Budgets are moral documents. They tell us who matters. #NovaScotia #NSPoli #NSBudget

So, I've decided to not only share the poems again as I get them ready to send to publishers again (maybe agents?), but I'm also going to be sharing the process and struggles involved. At least that's the intention.

This International Women's Day - in #NovaScotia, I just want to send a huge 🖕to a government that cuts funding and makes systems of care rely on the unpaid labour of women/femmes.

BFB!
I wrote this in solidarity with my fellow Phd students/candidates and most importantly, with my community in mind.
I will not comply with this ableist violence being perpetuated by our government #NSpoli. My community will not be left behind or erased anymore in the name of so-called "savings".
This budget is disabling all of us. We need real action.
Solidarity.
Austerity is code for erasure. Budgets are moral documents. They tell us who matters. Clearly, in #NovaScotia, disabled people don't matter.
But I'm a #Disabled Nova Scotian, I matter. My community matters. The work I do as a PhD student at @stfx-university.bsky.social matters.
I would like to read some poetry! Never stop the art! Art is a radical revolution against fascism!
I'm going to finish this PhD in Education to spite the government at this point. You can't stop me! I'm full of "Collective rage and Unconditional love!" (quote by Disability Justice Org, Sins Invalid)
Sincerely,
A #Disabled Educator and PhD Student in #NovaScotia
If it's not already obvious that the leader is embezzling funds for himself and his allies after that budget drop, it should be. Although this may be uncovered over time, the immediate impact is once again on those most affected by the oppressive violence perpetuated by the wealthiest.
I wish all disabled students (phd, masters, etc) get a supervisor and committee as flexible and understanding as I have. Truly. It's not until you start worrying about ableist barriers that you need people in your corner cheering you on and offering guidance that suits your access needs.
Disability cannot be used to evade/avoid personal responsibility. When harm is done, intentionally or not, reparations need to be made.
A small staffroom in a big school should be a warning sign to teachers that they do not want us to remain in solidarity or organized.
The best support for #Disabled folks is other #Disabled folks. Community creation is central to our survival.
There is no #inclusion without other humans. More support means more access needs are honoured. If you think you can create an inclusive, safe, & equitable space w/ the same resources you have always had, or w/fewer? You're incorrect. That isn't inclusion, it's erasure.
#Disability
#Disability means that not only do I work full time, not only am I a PhD candidate, not only am I a spouse and step-parent, but I'm also a patient. The amount of time spent at doctors' offices, specialist appointments, etc., is, at the very least, a part-time job that I am not being compensated for
#Sundays are sensory friendly. At your #Museum, lights and sounds are lowered wherever possible for a more sensory-friendly experience for visitors. No programming announcements will be made.
facism is a spectrum
#Inclusion requires acknowledging past ableist violence. We must validate and support disabled people's experiences of exclusion and work together to ensure reparations are made, and anti-ableist practices are at the centre of access and equity for disabled folks.
True #inclusion and #accessibility takes into account socio-economics, the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and centres leadership of the most impacted by the violence of inaccessibility and exclusion (and yes, these things are a form of violence).
Make sure to check in on your disabled neighbours, friends, community members as the storm/snow comes.
Just FYI to my city (Halifax) - disabled folks still need sidewalks in winter. Disabled folks still need bus stops to be accessible in winter. Disabled folks still need access in winter.
A very strong solar storm just hit Earth! Expect bright auroras tonight! #Canada

Give up the idea that you can be everywhere for everyone, doing everything. A focus is not an exclusion. We do our best as our bodyminds can.
