illustration made on ms paint simulating a video game, there's a square with the "game" on, a porcelain angel creature that's starting to crack and broke into a flesh-y being is on front of two characters, sariel (an angel) and casio (their human). on the bottom of that square there's a text box that writes "... your... cousin?", on the right there's three options to pick from 1. run, 2. say hi, 3. run faster.

on the far right of the composition there are two elements/graphics that portrait both characters in the "game", one of sariel, showing their body with organs inside, bright red, there's a bunch of tear shaped graphics that appear to be "charged". down that element there's a frame portraying casio, he appears to be scared and two hands are surrounding his neck, flesh and gut is on top of his frame; on the left of it there are four hearts, three of them are "empty", the last one has a little bit of red color on it.

Image is an illustration. There’s two white rabbits with purple bows identical to each other. They have strange double eyes, blue liquid splashes on their mouths as if they’ve chewed on something juicy. From their bows, they have blue, strange wire-like entrails with purple stars and sparks. The entrails lead down to a strange glowing machine at the bottom, the center a circular brain with vein-like wires connecting to the rabbits or off the page. At the top, behind them is a strange fleshy object that looks like lungs and a rincage, the base of a computer with lots of blue wires and buttons. It has two fleshy eyes at its sides, one open and one closed. The center of the machine features a window inside, a fleshy presence with bioluminescence pulsating through its veins.

Country Music Has Long Been Political The controversy about Zach Bryan's latest song taps into a half century of political realignment and country's evolution.

This article is a fascinating look into some of the history of the vibe shift (spoiler: the problem unsurprisingly started with Nixon)

Case in point especially with the difference of folk/country music being more explicitly left leaning with musicians like Pete Seeger and woody Guthrie

Book cover for Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. The cover depicts Carmilla leaning her head against Laura's while she embraces her, Laura doesn't shy away from Carmillas touch but seems shy to reciprocate. They're framed by a red pointed arch, a devil and an angel and some baroque ornaments.

I do think there is aversion to dark stories as a type of weaponized comfort for folks, but that’s not always the case. Just like there’s horror fans who are…. Into horror for very different reasons than myself πŸ˜…

08.03.2026 18:34 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

No i totally feel that. Being queer and finding myself attracted to darker stories like a moth to the light has definitely been interesting to put it… nicely lol.

It’s also definitely just how discourse on the internet sucks and why sometimes I just like to do smaller groups instead πŸ˜… idea get the nuance beaten out of them and turned into a dysfunctional game of telephone idk

100000% and I can also under needing a break from The Horrors too!! But simply painting horror as some form of self flagellation entertainment is too simple!!!

Basically horror = mean, negative only
Cozy (often romantic) = apolitical happy escape space only

And like both of these bother me a lot lol

08.03.2026 18:12 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

But I keep finding this odd all or nothing approach to media like this idea where dark story = bleak and awful only. And on the flip side happy and positive = good vibes only, no darker subjects or class analysis and etc

Oh for sure! And then there’s this sensitivity to that criticism bc no art is made in a vacuum. I feel that criticism in general is actually intended to be the most loving engagement. But it’s a shame that the loudest and most bad faith seems to be what takes over.

I’m sympathetic to both as art β€˜comforting the disturbed’, however when camp one starts saying stuff like horror is bad bc we have enough horror in the world - that’s fundamentally misunderstanding the genre and why ppl still make it/watch it. It’s like saying drama is wrong for making ppl cry. lol

There’s a dichotomy about media I keep seeing with cozy vs dark art. Example: some ppl from dysfunctional families will watch the most saccharine hallmark channel shit for escapism, and others will watch hereditary to feel seen, which is a type of comfort too.

I do think an alternate universe version of the character works better for me than doing a meta commentary on multiple versions of the character to conclude her ultimate goal is to be a hero in every universe

Like it’s kind off driving me crazy that they did an introspective story about a character and show they seem to not understand who they made at all. Baffling πŸ˜…
