Murkowski votes yes and hopes it doesn’t pass.

Hawley says it’s terrible for his constituents and the middle class … yet votes yes.

It’s pretty simple: words don’t matter. Votes do.

Warnock: A budget is not just a fiscal document. A budget is a moral document. Show me your budget and I'll show you who you think matters and who doesn't. And if this awful budget were an EKG, it would suggest that our nation has a heart problem and is in need of moral surgery

Tennessee’s law expressly classifies on the basis of sex
and transgender status, so the Constitution and settled
precedent require the Court to subject it to intermediate
scrutiny. The majority contorts logic and precedent to say
otherwise, inexplicably declaring it must uphold Tennessee’s categorical ban on lifesaving medical treatment so
long as β€œβ€˜any reasonably conceivable state of facts’” might
justify it. Ante, at 21. Thus, the majority subjects a law
that plainly discriminates on the basis of sex to mere rational-basis review. By retreating from meaningful judicial
review exactly where it matters most, the Court abandons
transgender children and their families to political whims.
In sadness, I dissent.

Justice Sotomayor's dissent in Skrmetti (which she's now reading from the bench) is deeply pained, accusing her colleagues of abandoning "transgender children and their families to political whims" and badly damaging "bedrock" principles of equal protection. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

When You Think Of The Budget, Think Of The Children These children don't understand phrases like "means testing." All they know, is that in the week leading up to the food stamps...

The federal budget is our money– not my money that was stolen from me and your money that was stolen from you, but OUR money, pooled from a bit of each of our incomes, so that we can fund the country we all share.

Where do you want your money to go?

This Memorial Day weekend, the best way to honor the soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice is to honor and protect the freedoms and the democracy they died for.

ABA
It has been three weeks since Inauguration Day.
Most Americans recognize that newly elected leaders bring change. That is expected. But most Americans also expect that changes will take place in accordance with the rule of law and in an orderly manner that respects the lives of affected individuals and the work they have been asked to perform.
Instead, we see wide-scale affronts to the rule of law itself, such as attacks on constitutionally protected birthright citizenship, the dismantling of USAID and the attempts to criminalize those who support lawful programs to eliminate bias and enhance diversity.
We have seen attempts at wholesale dismantling of departments and entities created by Congress without seeking the required congressional approval to change the law. There are efforts to dismiss employees with little regard for the law and protections they merit, and social media announcements that disparage and appear to be motivated by a desire to inflame without any stated factual basis. This is chaotic. It may appeal to a few.
But it is wrong. And most Americans recognize it is wrong.
It is also contrary to the rule of law.
The American Bar Association supports the rule of law. That means holding governments, including our own, accountable under law. We stand for a legal process that is orderly and fair.
We have consistently urged the administrations of both parties to adhere to the rule of law. We stand in that familiar place again today. And we do not stand alone. Our courts stand for the rule of law as well.

Senate Contact List A handy list with names and contact info.

Know someone in Maine? Mauna Loa? In between? Here's a list to forward it to your sympathetic friends in far away places and ask them to take a FEW MINUTES - to call their reps. List is handy also if you want to start with Alabama and go all the way to Wyoming and call them all. #resist #activate

The Logic of Destruction And how to resist it

Sometimes self-government just means elections. And sometimes it means recognizing the deeper dignity and meaning of what it means to be a people. That means speaking up, standing out, and protesting. We can only be free together.

Deadly Bigotry Friends,

Trump blaming last night's tragic crash on "DEI" isn't just racist nonsense.

It’s part of his divide and conquer strategy.

He wants to get us so riled up against one another that we don’t look upward and see where all the power and wealth have gone.

DEI Isn’t Dying: These Companies Are Standing Strong Against 'Anti-Woke' Backlash in 2025 Despite pressure, many companies remain steadfast in their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

βœ… NEW by me:

Apple and Costco are not alone in taking a strong stand on diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI). The list of corporate giants pushing back on the 'anti-woke' #DEI backlash is growing in 2025.
