First they would not let me enter the country. Then they wouldn't let me leave.
A cautionary tale about the disastrous ripple effect of traveling to speak at international schools without the right kind of blank pages in your passport:

One of the states in which my school visits have been censored because I say "gay" is Texas.
So I was especially grateful that Texas school librarian Pattie Smith Nix interviewed me about it (and more) for the Texas Library Association podcast:

First time I’ve seen this! Thank you!
That’s nice to hear!
Black History Month! I've had the privilege of interviewing various Black performers of Gen X culture - from a singer on the iconic 1970s "Wonder Woman" theme to the cast of the beloved early 2000s Budweiser "Whassup!" commercials: www.noblemania.com/search/label....
A fourth grader sent some valid requests to an author who doesn’t exist, and I had the privilege of writing her back.
What do donuts and boogers have to do with it?

A Tennessee librarian wanted to book me to speak but ultimately couldn't because [direct quotation] "the school board and others in the community do not see you in layers. No subtlety. They see all authors except Christian authors as evil."
And such people say WE'RE indoctrinating...
President, you’re no Kennedy Center.

Only one actor appeared in both SUPERMAN [1978] and BATMAN [1989] - David Baxt.
About 20 years ago, he disappeared.
Here's his story: www.noblemania.com/2025/12/the-....
Internet, do your thing and help us find him.
3/3 So to get the best shot I could from the street, in 28°, I wedged myself between shrubs, then hoisted myself at an awkward angle with one foot on a chain-link fence and the other on a low, broken branch.
For that level of commitment, I think I deserve a Scooby Snack.
2/3 In October, the owner of this private property—Seaview Terrace in Newport, RI—had kindly given me advanced permission to come on to the grounds to take a photo. But just before my trip last week, she reneged.
1/3 Recognize this place?
Hint: “Here are you.” [Sub-hint: that’s a lyric.]
Next image reveals the iconic image that this mansion inspired.
4/4 The only downside: @soontornvat.bsky.social spoke there the day before me and I missed it.
3/4 My host, librarian Frances Martindale, is retiring at the end of this school year, so I was privileged to hear her colleagues heap praise on her and recount her transformative impact on heaps of kids.
2/4 An eighth grader interviewed me for the school newspaper, and I put her name in my 2035 calendar so I can look up whether she's on Broadway or at the NEW YORK TIMES.
1/4 Ten years after first contact, I finally got the chance to speak at The Gordon School, and it's an author's dream community.
The number of attendees for my evening talk was double the temperature outside.

In our interview, I’d asked Edward how he’d like to be remembered.
“As a maker of imaginary worlds with real characters in them.”
They say never meet your heroes.
Exceptions exist.
It was one of the most moving moments I’ve observed in my career.
On top of that, he and his wife Joan [who died last year] then invited me to a lovely dinner.
In 2011, I found and interviewed the elusive, humble Edward, learning he’d never DONE an interview…or a book signing…or a school visit.
He’d never met his fans.
So later that year, I surprised him—and, at the same time, a room full of his fans: www.noblemania.com/2011/12/edwa....
Less than a month shy of age 100, Edward Ormondroyd died.
His debut book “David and the Phoenix” [1957] was a childhood favorite of mine and now a cult classic. He wrote about a dozen more before hanging up his typewriter in the mid-1980s.
Don Argott and Sheena Joyce don't need any promo help from the likes of me, but always happy to plug talented young singer/songwriters: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLIO....

At a time when it can feel like the better angels of our natures have left the building, I find it even more powerful to look to superhero stories.
They spotlight people who put others first…not for pay or praise, but because people matter most.

Not that it was easy. Or quick.
But aside from my family, it was the most exhilarating effort I’ve undertaken.

Training a penguin to clean your house? Impossible.
Opening a Chico’s on Jupiter? Impossible.
Going back in time and auditioning for “Back to the Future”? Impossible.
Convincing a company [even a massive company] to correct an unjust omission? Doable.

Despite what industry experts, trusted friends, and online randos had long said, Bill’s granddaughter Athena, her sister Alethia, and I believed this change was possible.
My beacon was perspective.

TEN YEARS.
Ten years ago today, Batman co-creator Bill Finger’s life changed—41 years after he died.
DC Comics added his name to the Batman credit line—76 years after the character debuted.
And nine years after I began nudging, then pushing, for that.
