25.12.2025 20:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm halfway through Moby Dick, and I wanted to say I think it is a really good and inspired story. I really enjoy how inventive Melville is with the structure of the narrative, how he plays into a nonlinear approach and how he goes from a narrative driven experience, to chapters focused on-

It's been a great year :D
20.12.2025 13:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm also happy I've read the LOTR trilogy, even though I'm not as hot on it as a lot of people are. It's an important story when it comes to modern fantasy and the troupes a lot of other works follow, and I think Frodo is cool.
I'll read the works that inspired it in the future as well.
I think Stephen King really kills it when it comes to character writing, which is why I adore The Shining a lot as a narrative. The entire broken family dynamic the story expresses, and the way he's able to successfully capture the voices of the different pov characters is excellent.

Here's a list of the books I've read this year! I've finally at a place in my life where I can actually just focus on reading and I think that has gone a long way for me both as an editor/writer, and as a person. :)
I've only read stuff like Lord of the Rings, and Mistborn so far, so I want to expand out and find gems that can hopefully influence my writing and make me a better writer! :)
11.12.2025 23:28 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Since I have been getting into a lot more fantasy novels recently, anyone has any good recommendations?
I really adore character driven stories that focus on flawed people (a lot of my favorite stories focus on this heavily,) and stories with a strong thematic through line!
Mistborn is a pretty great fantasy story! I really liked Vin as a protagonist a lot. I think she has a pretty fun personality, and I really like how her flaw of mistrusting people influences the plot and serves as an effective character arc.
The action is fun to follow and has a great magic system.
-enjoyed the action quite a bit, I think the setting is cool, and I think Kelster and Vin are both pretty fun to follow. I'm interested in seeing where the story goes from where I'm at (I'm at chapter 10,) I think I'll probably get the rest of the series whenever I buy more books. :D
04.12.2025 23:07 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Recently I bought Brandson Sanderson's Mistborn, and a F. Scott Fitzgerald book collection, which is nifty!
I've started reading Mistborn to get some other fantasy writing in my brain instead of LTOR stuff, and it's been pretty good! It isn't the sort of fantasy I'm looking for, but so far I've-

-I haven't started Return of The King yet. Once I finish Lord of The Flies (ironic,) I'll get to it.

I also really like the journey Frodo experiences throughout, though-
I think the media tie in collection books for The Lord of the Rings series is pretty nifty; and it has overall been a pretty enjoyable way for me to experience the series. I have a few issues with Tolken's approach to writing (particularly with how he handles exposition,) but I do admire the clear-

29.11.2025 23:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0thatmagicalmagegrandlibrary.wordpress.com/2024/09/14/f... Awhile back I wrote about Fear and Hunger: Termina, I think this is a nifty little review! I have played Masox Mode (specifically as Olivia) since which has changed a few minor thoughts but I think the broader points still apply.
29.11.2025 23:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I think the overt narration in this story really does enhance the emotional depth of the piece. It's a great example of why to me "show don't tell" isn't a rule to follow, but a tip to consider. Sometimes telling can be more emotionally powerful, it's just about context.
29.11.2025 23:11 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A short story I keep coming back to and admiring is Markheim by Robert Stevenson, I think it is a really effective character of the titular character that delves into the ideas of guilt and atonement very well. Especially with how the narration laminates on Markheim's distress.
