What does it mean to “do social science”? Is publishing papers the end goal of research or is it the process of inquiry, engaging with existing materials, proposing novel ways forward? Is “publish or perish” the purpose of higher education and social sciences or is it engaging with the world?

Chelsea is a fantastic player and I have no issues per se with her getting MVP. But I do think Marina was horribly overlooked and people love to talk badly about her game when in fact she is an incredibly talented hooper who unlocked a new level to her game that deserved to be recognised.

Marina wasn’t just good in Philly - she and Chelsea have the same number of 30+ point games and she has one 40+ game - against Chelsea’s team. She had less help than Chelsea did with teammates averaging fewer points than Chelsea’s. And the Rose were also bundled out one game into the playoffs.

There was that Epstein text exchange with Bannon where he said "Trump doesn't respect anyone who agrees to his demands" and never has that been more apparent than every newspaper/university/law firm getting their shit double-owned by the guy they bent over for in the first place.

Anyway, I haven’t seen the agreement so maybe it has provisions but all the foreign leagues offer US players housing and better wages. There’s going to be very little incentive for Leila Lacan, Dom Malonga or Li Yueru to come to the W with an agreement that protects Aja and Paige and not them.

I haven’t seen the final offer but if you’re making 6 figures in New York your effective tax rate for nonresidents can be something like 35%. So if they’re withdrawing housing after 2026 the take home for out of towners could actually be lower than it is now. I think California is the same.

If they increase the salary caps but move relatively little on what salaries are offered to role players *and* take away housing then the meaningful take home for those role players is effectively going to go down. Imagine having to find housing in LA or New York in the middle of the season?

The W has always been a fascinating model for labour solidarity in a deeply capitalist professional sports environment. Offering the top players exceptional deals while barely moving on what’s available to role players is kind of a sad development. It’s going to be like the NWSL.
