Do all these apparatchiks realise that the day after Trump their protector has gone they are in severe danger?

How about - you can enjoy or not enjoy any artist you want, just don't decide on the basis of race or skin colour or language or anything that has nothing to do with the art?

Yes - here in France they are doing away with copper imminently and you can get the Mairie to arrange fibre to your house, then you choose your provider.

Interesting. I always had this thought that the Internet allowed UK and Europe etc to leapfrog the US where they were already captured by Compuserve et al.

They are trying to whitewash him, but the timelines for the mag would say it was put to bed long before the current scandal - but after he was fired as ambassador.

How does a Russia that can barely handle the Ukranians take on the rest of Europe?

Fundamentally, we messed a lot of things up. I often wonder why I'm not a billionaire now but on the other hand ... what a nightmare. I'd have to be kissing Trump's arse.

This is actually a double low impact whammy because the person who took me and my colleague for a meal was Lynne Franks who we'd met at an event at nearby Cyberia internet cfe that evening.

Once I was taken for a late evening meal at Groucho's in London's Soho. The place was almost empty (we had had to argue for them to let us in) but we ate our meal. Afterwards my two companions excitedly told me that George Michael had been sitting behind us. I never knew this or saw him.

Good grief, the whole point of noting that you were the first in your family to 'go to' university is about how you climbed out of a family background where attaining degrees was not the norm, not whether your parents literally spent three years at a university.

I thought I had read the entire thread - maybe I missed the very end. My point really was only that Adams could have plaigarised it, even unwittingly, because his telling of it postdates the play's transmission. But frankly, who cares.

Oh, so there was a plagiarism accusation in the 70s! The plot thickens (or maybe thins).

A piss, up in a brewery as opposed to A pissup in a brewery.

True. I tried to find out something about the girl's play because without knowing more detail of what her story was, who can say anything. Where did the original information come from? The play seems to have been lost to time.

Or, if you insist, my daughter's birthday.

I thought that was the very definition of organising a piss up in a brewery.

Iโ€™m assuming thatโ€™s a joke as itโ€™s quite funny.

And accidentally eating someone one elseโ€™s packet of biscuits under the assumption that they are your own is also a common story?

Sure, but until today it never occured to me that there was the same story in circulation - and he could well have heard the play on radio. Could have, not did.

I'd feel inclined to accuse Douglas Adams of plaigarism.
