Cooperating with Republicans to bail them out of their own failures isn't fulfilling some higher duty to the people, it's empowering the wrong side in the most severe constitutional crisis of our lifetimes.
The next DOGE target could be the FDIC, which was already experiencing a staffing shortage before Trump's hiring freeze.
Remember: the FDIC was created during the Depression to protect people's deposit accounts.
Gutting it could lead to another financial meltdown.
Half a billion dollars in US taxpayer-funded food aid is at risk of spoiling as it sits in ports, ships, and warehouses after Trump cut off funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Just a reminder that Musk’s companies have received over $15 billion from the US government — he’s happy to go after USAID but not the agencies that have been feeding him.

The ordinary questions you might ask: Is Elon Musk a government employee? Are his lieutenants? Does he personally hold a security clearance and do his “lieutenants”? Have they all undergone a background check? Are they subject to foreign influence? Have they ever done a sieg heil on stage?
So, what's the budget of DOGE? Is it part of the government? Is it independent? What are the guidelines, if any, that govern its reach and authority? Did people vote for Musk or Trump? Also, how does a private citizen have access to our Treasury's federal payment system?
Yes. Former Treasury and OMB officials explained to me in detail what sort of power Elon Musk has now been granted. They described it as akin to having his hands on a series of spigots that he can now turn on and off:

So if I’m understanding today correctly, the world’s richest person Elon Musk, whom no one elected, is taking over federal payment systems and employee data while the federal employees who investigate and prosecute public corruption are being fired en masse.
I hope people see how truly alarming this is:
1. Musk's team, who may not even be US govt employees yet, have complete access to OPM's databases of PII on federal employees and have locked out career employees
2. Musk's people trying to do same with THE US TREASURY MASTER PAYMENT SYSTEM 🚨
You guys, we are living through a coup 2.0. Except this time it looks like it will be successful, and a puerile, right-wing billionaire, not even POTUS, is going to be in charge of the U.S. Treasury, government personnel, and basically all of our personal data.
