Ask A Manager screenshot, headlined "When I asked for a raise, my boss went through my bills" - posted on February 9, 2021.

Reader's letter: "I've been in my job for a little over a year. I asked my boss for a raise, and he asked if I really need it. It stumped me, seeing how I am barely getting by. I said yes. He went over my bills, and at the end he said, 'You'll have $4,000 at the end of the year saved up so no.' That $4,000 is just after bills, not having fun or stuff that needs to be done.

I talked to some other people who have been here for a while. One was here for seven years and hasn't once got a raise. The other has been here a lot longer and does most of the stuff around here and if she left the company would fail. She said that she too asked for a raise a couple of months ago, and our boss went through her bills and said no.

I'm just kinda over it, if you know what I mean. You put your best effort into something, make it nice, no complaints for the whole year and lots of compliments from customers, but it all comes down to 'if I need it', which I do."

The first line of Alison's response is: "WHY IS YOUR BOSS GOING THROUGH YOUR BILLS?"

I always love Ask A Manager posts where you can literally hear Alison's brain short-circuiting www.askamanager.org/2021/02/when...

That interview buries all claims of "democratizing" access to information or capabilities like programming. It's not about empowerment, it is about rentseeking.

Keir Starmer says what Kneecap stand for is ‘completely intolerable’ The Prime Minister made the statement during a trip to Belfast

Fuck Keir Starmer

- A man who couldn't get us cancelled from Glasto

- A man who couldn't beat us in court

- A man who has destroyed the Labour Party

- A man whose government supports war criminals in Israel with weapons and intelligence

I keep seeing people ask about the 25th Amendment.

Guys. His entire Cabinet is walking around in shoes that don’t fit because they’re scared to take them off.

The 25th is never happening.

Certain dudes are still upset with me when I said in 2012 that here in the US, being a straight white male is living on the lowest difficulty setting of life. From here on out I'm just going to refer them to these DOGE staffer depositions, and then tell them to go fuck themselves.

I Watched 6 Hours of DOGE Bro Testimony. Here's What They Had to Say For Themselves The hours of videos provide fascinating, or perhaps horrifying, insight into the thinking of someone inside DOGE.

I have watched 6 hours of a DOGE bro deposition. The whole thing, start to finish. It's a fascinating, and horrifying, look at the people who caused so much damage, didn't really achieve anything at all, while still being so sure they are right. Here's what they said: www.404media.co/i-watched-6-...

If you’re one of the nation’s most prominent transphobes *and* you can still go to a major trans rights event and apparently spend the evening largely unnoticed, you should probably be careful who you call a nobody

you can tell Wired has been doing good journalism lately because there's been increased whining by the extraction class about how Wired mysteriously changed in the decade since tech titans fully revealed themselves as sociopaths

Every time I read what a UK minister says about the EU it almost feels like they're assuming we have the same power as members. We're not negotiating, we're making representations. Only EU institutions are negotiating their rules.
