The developers seem like good people, so I'm giving the benefit of the doubt here and going with fear instead of contempt. But you still can't tell an engaging story if you're afraid to say anything! No frills and no spice.

When people say they don't want politics in a work, what they mean is that they don't want to see a culture that differs from their own. Samson looks as generically American as possible. Not a subculture to be seen. Which is boring to me, but definitely comforting to certain audiences.

It's so hard to break a new IP. I don't see this doing well. Not because there isn't an audience for it, but because we've been trained to devour sequels. I bet if this had dropped exactly the same but as a Saints Row title, it would have had buzz.
Actually, I can explain why. It feels like a very Disneyfied version of street life. Detached from any reality and difficult to assign to a particular region, time, or culture. Which I suppose helps set it apart from Rockstar--a company obsessed with realism and culture due to its love of satire.
