A tweet from Newt Gingritch detailing his idea to use thermonuclear detonations to build a new channel and avoid the threatened straits.

Why is Newt Gingritch speaking with the words of a half drunk E4 combat engineer?

I once made a very attractive woman get the ick by using the word "equidistant"

I still remember watching the sparkle leave her eyes.

I'd put in my OER how much I increased the vocabulary of the unit hosting regular briefings to force multiply joint operability and effectiveness in the district.

Yeah that's just the best way to ensure it gets worse. Poor leadership/mentorship on his part.

I see we are at the "even the veneer of academics is enough to be bad." Phase.

Pretty soon they will be firing people who wear glasses and use three syllable words.

Some of us had to do slides and brief two ranks up (or more) at the tactical level.

Whether it's out of shame or anger. Who can say?

True... But that's the Navy...

You can't gut the IG and JAG and expect the Navy to be pillars of morality. Just say "Fat Leonard" and watch them redden.

War Crimes in Iran YouTube video by LegalEagle

A frustrating but important breakdown of the laws of armed conflict and the US's recent actions.

And functionally what you are saying is the Navy can't because the Navy doesn't wanna.

Which.. lol.

I typoed it. Fuck.

That risk tolerance calculation isn't a decision point for the Navy. It's a decision point for the administration and SECDEF.

Navy can provide the projections and metrics. But the decision isn't the navy's to make.

The Navy saying they CANT provide security is a core mission failure.

You are trying to obfuscate the similarities between an operational logistics chain and a global trade logistics train. The cargo isn't the difference.

And I would submit that the vehicle differences are minor vis a vis a threat from the land.

It's a logistics chain. Claiming it's wildly different because it's not organic is a stretch.

Largely DoN hate.

I guess while I see gaps in all the services capabilities, it doesn't appear equal to my eyes.

That and the realization that had Taiwan kicked off the cracks and gaps would have been real real bad.

The AF has organic assets to ensure the safety of their bombers.

There are levels of safety but they never say "sorry. Without the Army and the Navy ensuring air superiority we cant go in."

Similar with the army. Yet here you are trying to claim that the Navy can't without joint operations.

Except the Navy did get asked and publicly said they can't.

You saying all Navy planning assumes they will have friendly ground around them?

They've been doing strait passages for decades assuming the opposite.

How is that realistic? Non state actors and proxy actors are the norm. They have to come from somewhere cheap. The biggest threat to shipping is littoral. The Navy even called this and built bad ships for it.

Hell UKR murking the Moskva shoulda been a clue.

Good on the Navy for being honest about their short-comings then I guess.

Good for sinking individual ships from subs but not much else unless it's a joint strategic operation.

Not for nothing but the army hasn't been asked.

The Army didn't say "we can't".

The Marines exist for that job AND fall under the Navy for that reason. And the Navy is still saying "we can't".

Not "it's hard" or "expensive". Can't.

Pretty much not up to the Navy.

Pretty much up to the SECDEF and POTUS.

Telling them "I can't" is kinda wild. Especially this Administration.

Ok. But ostensibly the "trade" they would be protecting during an altercation near Taiwan would be the logistics of the Marines and potentially Army. Not to mention Taiwan.

So the Navy can only protect trade routes when the army controls the ground on both sides...

The Navy and PACOM have been banging on for YEARS about Taiwan.

But give them two other straits with insurgent adversaries possessing significantly lower quality munitions and magazine depth to practice what they have been laser focused on for decades.

"We can't"

That's fair. The number of NC Dems that got primaried is impressive.
