Father of many artificial life forms but hater of 'AI'. I wrote my first intelligent chatbot in 1978 and I promise never to do it again. P.S. I'm not the hunky gay country singer! Although if you're interested in artificial life too, then I'm your guy.

That's a really nice demo! I don't think he once mentioned the word capacitance, yet coax is a capacitor. I wonder what, if anything, happens differently in a delay line. Fantastic channel!

Yes, apparently so! At least partly, anyway. Charlie Brooker reviewed it or maybe interviewed me, when he was a game journo, back in the 90’s. I guess I made an impression. A slightly sinister one!

Yes!!!! Perfect! Good luck with the takeover. Here's hoping for a sunny day. I have a few good targets for you, when you're ready...

Haha! Wonderful. Lucy’s in the Science Museum, amongst loads of (other) rusty old stuff. A friend is exactly what she needs!

β€œeverybody got measles. And the measles gave you lifetime protection against measles infection,”

So that’s a 100% failure rate, then. All those people who were supposedly β€œprotected against measles infection” actually got measles. Can I wake up, now? I don’t like this dream.

Trump will kick Canada out of Five Eyes? I think he’ll just find Four Eyes staring right back at him, waving goodbye to the one-eyed lunatic.

HOW did they decide this was a mistake? Upon what criteria? Public outrage? Toss of a coin? Musk’s say so? Musk’s cat’s say so? I don’t know who the hell ever thought this cretin was a genius. He’s an incompetent idiot with severe impulsivity problems.

Struggling to agree? β€œYes, the Martians have invaded and they’re killing everyone in sight, but what should our messaging be, here? Maybe we need to run a focus group…” Jeez.

Looks like the giraffes and elephants decided to pass on the deal. Don’t blame them - that ship's going nowhere.

Is it one of those "help! I'm being abused" secret signals that we're all supposed to know about? Should we mount a rescue operation?

Surely remaining in our homes and hoping for vaccines so that we could protect our fellows is the very epitome of prosocial behavior?

The chickens had hundreds of millions of years to evolve, yet they still won’t clean up after themselves. They had their chance and blew it. Easy choice.

(I’m starting to feel much the same way about humans.)

Hey Jenny! Yeah, I decided to come and join the cool kids. Haven’t quite plucked up the courage to delete my twitter account yet, but I hovered over the button, so I’m close…

Likewise! Bluesky is like a breath of fresh air, isn't it? I'm glad I noticed you. Lucy is now in the permanent collection of the Science Museum, and 9 year-old me is very proud of her! I'm expecting her to write to me any day... :)

the problem with tackling "wasteful government bureaucracy" is it's like deleting files from your computer called hostserver.dll that look useless and take up a lot of space and then your computer stops working

Everything is feedback, but the worst scenario here is a half-hearted tit-for-tat, where the protests and suppression ramp each other up inexorably, in an arms race. We need to become an immovable object, before they become an unstoppable force.

I've been lurking here for a whole hour now, and what I've learned is that the levels of snark, tribalism and psychopathy are higher here by ten whole IQ points.

So that's good, I guess.
