Whenever people talk about fentanyl around me and how often police are affected by it, I bring up the fact that nurses use it every day and nothing happens, and that maybe police need to learn the difference between a panic attack and an OD.

We had an I 💜 Mac and Cheese place here for a few years and it was, imo, even better than N&C. I was so sad when it closed, but kinda hard to sell gourmet food in rural North Dakota, I'm guessing.

Forcing disabled people to become a financial dependent if they get married or cohabitate can kill.

Refusing to give us autonomy & a living wage forces us into dangerous situations.

We need independence and equality.

ICE Took Wael Tarabishi's Full Time Caregiver Away... and it Killed Him Wael Tarabishi was a 30 year old disabled man who's father Maher was his full time caregiver. ICE took Maher in October, leaving Wael without support. He died three months later.

On this Disability Day of Mourning, let’s honor Wael Tarabishi, a disabled man who died when ICE took his caregiver away.

Wael told them he would die without his father who was his “arms, legs & lungs”.

ICE took him anyways.

Fight for us.

Help us get the social supports we need to save lives.

Check in on the disabled person in your life. Make sure they know someone has their back. Make sure they know they’re loved. Make sure they feel safe.

Then help us create real and lasting change.

Disabled people experience abuse at a much higher rate than the non disabled… and it’s being driven by policy choices.

Our suffering is dictated by governments that see us as “useless eaters”, and it’s enabled by a society that doesn’t see value in fighting for us.

We could walk away from dangerous relationships because we would have a safety net.

Forcing disabled people into legislated poverty kills them.

Clawing back their benefits if they get married kills them.

Not allowing them financial independence kills them.

No one should be forced to rely on someone who’s abusing them.

No one should have to grovel to get their basic needs met.

With adequate social supports disabled people could live independent and safe lives.

We could hire help that works for us.

We could be in control

Disabled people can’t “just leave” a bad situation because there’s no one else to take care of us.

If our caregiver is also our abuser, we’re stuck.

Ableds can’t understand this. They can’t imagine having to choose between being able to access food & medicine or being safe.

Disability Day of Mourning is a day dedicated to grieving disabled people who’ve been killed by their caregivers.

The people we entrust to keep us safe are often the ones most likely to hurt us.

Why? Because ableism is violence but the non disabled don’t see it that way.

I associate the chatter with there being more than one in or near the yard, haven’t seen two at once yet.

Seven Turkey vultures are seen soaring in a blue sky mid morning today.

The morning sun must be generating thermals, I saw a mini kettle (at least 7) Turkey vultures soaring in our little valley. #birds SoCal

Finally came out of the cupboard for some recliner time!

A very small praying mantis is on a milkweed stem. The bug is much smaller than the leaves on the milkweed.

A roadrunner came to visit and is standing tall on a concrete patio that is half in shade. The tip of the bird’s tail is casting a shadow as it stands toward the camera and looks to our right.

A couple #birds I haven’t seen in a week or two showed up this morning - Northern mockingbird and Black phoebe. A couple birds that were on a 1 day hiatus are back - Hooded oriole and Ravi!!

Picacho Peak in Imperial County, California, near the Arizona border. We have some amazing geologic formations, but a lot of them are only accessible by four-wheel drive. Such an amazing sight! "Picacho" is "peak" in Spanish, so it's really Peak Peak. There's another Picacho Peak in Arizona.

People with disabilities are far more likely to be trapped in abusive relationships.

To be assaulted.

We’re forced into legislated poverty & made to be dependent on people who don’t always have our best interests at heart.
