People struggling with serious mental illness will get the care, structure, and stability they need— and by using these buildings, we can do it quickly:
- Interim housing by Dec. 2027
- Mental health rehabilitation centers by Jan. 2028
- Long-term supportive housing in 2029
For the past two decades, these buildings on the Metropolitan State Hospital campus in Norwalk have sat vacant.
Now, we are going to put them to work. This project will bring together multiple levels of mental health treatment and housing in one coordinated setting.
One of the biggest challenges we face in LA County is that we simply do not have enough places where people can get the compassionate, professional mental health care they need.
That is why we need projects like the LA County Care Community— and today, we are breaking ground.
I hope Kristi Noem now has some time to go back to read her Bible…
And I hope that our new DHS secretary will remember that his job is to secure our homeland— not terrorize it.
Had the honor of joining the Lomita Chamber of Commerce today for their Community Awards Luncheon, where I swore in the new Board of Directors.
Each of these community members has stepped up to support their businesses and their city, and Lomita is better off for their service.
Today the board approved my plan to reduce deaths in our jails by increasing safety, accountability, and transparency.
As long as people are in our custody, they are on our care, and we have a duty to protect their lives. We have to do better—now.

Lawrence is an example of the rehabilitation that can happen at Los Padrinos. He has been released and is now advocating so that youth who are incarcerated have a better experience than he did.
Grateful that he could come testify today as we voted to formally support this bill.
I've gotten to know many of the youth incarcerated in Los Padrinos, including Lawrence— and I am so proud of him and all of the youth who inspired @isaacgbryan.bsky.social's bill to ensure youth in custody have the right to hug visitors.
The Hug Act (AB 1646) just passed out of committee.
Seeing that poster broke my heart.
I'm bringing a motion today w/ Supervisor Holly Mitchell to support AB 1646 to ensure youth in custody have the right to hug visitors.
The youth in our care already face unimaginable stress and challenges. It's time to let these kids hug their moms.
No one should tell a child that they cannot hug their mom.
A couple of years ago, the organization Hoops 4 Justice brought a poster made by youth at Los Padrinos to our board meeting. It listed 10 requests—and the final one was to be allowed to hug their mothers.
En route to our @metrolosangeles.bsky.social Board meeting again, but not a cloud in the sky this time. 🌞 And I’ve got my copy of Random Lengths to keep me busy. 📰
I know many here in LA County with loved ones in Mexico—especially in Jalisco and Michoacán—are closely following the events in Mexico today with concern and with sadness. I am keeping them in my thoughts and praying for peace. 🇲🇽
Come join the Holi Festival at Artesia Park on Sunday, March 8, where you can enjoy food, live music, and throw a rainbow of powder to celebrate the Festival of Colors.
Our @lacofd.bsky.social chief is clear: The Catalina Island Conservancy’s plan to eradicate the island’s deer will increase wildfire risk on the island.
We need to find a way to better manage Catalina’s deer population—not eliminate it.
Happy Lunar New Year!

Join in the fun at one of our events in the 4th District.
My full statement on his passing:
My heart is with Rev. Jackson's loved ones today.
He always fought for an America rooted in justice & dignity—and in 2015 I brought my granddaughter McKenna to a Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama with Rev. Jackson. It was a powerful reminder that his work connected generations.

Our hometown Olympic hero 🇺🇸
Congratulations to Chloe Kim on making Olympic history! She is the first woman to medal at three-straight Olympics in the halfpipe.
The @torranceca.bsky.social community and all of LA County couldn't be more proud.
More than two weeks later, and Kaiser workers are still on the picket line, fighting for a fair contract.
Kaiser needs to get back to the table NOW.
I stand with our healthcare workers.
Determining LA County's budget is a year-round process— and our work on the 2026-27 budget has already begun.

Had some very special guests join us for today’s board meeting— La Mirada High School's Youth in Government.
These are some incredibly impressive students, and I’m glad my office could give them a behind-the-scenes look at how local government works.
Honored to have Shamid Chaudhry lead us in today's pledge.
Shamid earned the Army Commendation Medal & the Iraqi Campaign Medal during his time in the Army, and today he advocates for veterans as a Peer Support Specialist for Veterans Stand Together.
Thank you, Shamid, for your service.

Can't wait to watch the 4th District's very own Chloe Kim & Beatrice Kim in the Winter Games.
Chloe is from Torrance, and Beatrice is from Palos Verdes—and both women are representing Team USA in snowboarding.
Congratulations to these Olympians. We're rooting for you back home!
11 years later, the Torrance Refinery & Valero Wilmington Refinery still use MFH—the chemical that nearly caused a mass casualty disaster in the 2015 Torrance Refinery explosion.
Join us Saturday as we call on these refineries to phase out MFH and use a safer alternative.
I stand with the parishioners and families of Holy Innocents. My office has reached out to offer my full support and any help they need as they heal from this assault on their community.
I look forward to those responsible being brought to justice.
This was not just an act of vandalism, this was a horrific violation of a school and faith community.
This should be a safe place for families to live their faith and for children to grow and learn. Instead, it has been desecrated.
