A couple of months ago, I hosted a demo ride of this route, from San Pedro to Long Beach and back. And last month, Metro released a feasibility study showing we can run this water taxi for as little as $4 per seat.
 
We know a water taxi is possible—now let's go, full steam ahead.

If we're serious about the 2028 Olympics being transit-first, Metro needs to be safe, accessible—and fun.

This Saturday at the South Whittier Community Resource Center—

➡️ $200 for ghost guns
➡️ $300 for assault rifles

No explosives of any kind.

I’m sorry to hear about the passing of Bob Foster.

Our work together goes back decades—he was my boss at Edison before I ran for LA City Council.

Bob was not only a visionary leader, but he was a great friend who leaves behind an incredible legacy.

We all know it wouldn’t be Christmas without tamales—so my office is partnering with Amapola and Northgate Market to host tamal kit giveaways for Fourth District residents on Saturday, Dec. 13.

This Thanksgiving, I'm grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who stepped up to help their communities at our food giveaways over the last few weeks.

This has been a difficult year— but the outpouring of generosity across LA County this holiday season has been inspiring.

Volunteers are hard at work right now at our food giveaway at the Fedde Sports Complex in Hawaiian Gardens.

There are still plenty of meals available— and no line! If you or someone you know could use some free groceries this holiday season, please stop by. The event will be open until noon.

Nearly 1,000 families will have full Thanksgiving spreads on their tables this year after our giveaways today in Commerce and in Whittier.

Thank you to the City of Commerce, CHIRLA, the Whittier Union High School District, and all of the volunteers who made these events possible.

I want this committee to know the pain ICE is causing—the children who may never see their parents again, the families going hungry without breadwinners.

The communities I represent have been terrorized by ICE, and we need Congress to be a check on this abuse of power.

ICE is targeting people based on their skin color or the language they speak. They are violating residents’ rights every day.

Our Board of Supervisors has taken what steps we can to protect our residents. But we need help from Congress—that is why this hearing is so important.

This morning I testified to @oversightdemocrats.house.gov at their Congressional Field Hearing about the impacts that ICE raids have had across LA County.

Today's event at LBCC was our biggest grocery giveaway yet— and it wouldn't have been possible without the partnership of the City of Long Beach and Mayor Rex Richardson.

Whether it’s due to the pause in SNAP benefits or breadwinners losing their source of income—families are struggling right now.

Tomorrow, I will unveil an ordinance barring all law enforcement, including ICE from concealing their identities. This is how an authoritarian’s secret police operate – not legitimate law enforcement in a democracy.

I continue to be impressed by the peaceful community members who have organized themselves and are doing everything they can to report on ICE’s presence in our neighborhoods and share the stories of the many people who have been ripped away from their families.

They are targeting people based on the color of their skin, or their accent, or the place they work. They are violating our residents’ rights every day they remain on our streets.

They are creating chaos and spreading fear in our immigrant community, and they need to leave.

ICE is continuing to terrorize our communities and they hit Long Beach hard today.

They are not communicating with local law enforcement, and we know they are not targeting violent criminals.

Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the memory of every trans person lost to anti-trans violence.

I stand with our trans community as we fight for an LA County that is free from the darkness of hate.

I moved to adjourn our meeting in memory of Jesse Marquez, a fierce and unwavering advocate for his community of Wilmington.
 
I will miss him, his honesty and the way he pushed all of us—including me—to do better. Jesse may be gone, but the movement he built is very much alive.

This is the unified, countywide strategy we need so that, for the first time, all of us—County departments, the State, the VA, and our nonprofit partners—will be rowing in the same direction.

Because no one who served our country should be sleeping on our streets.
