Image of a woman dragging Uncle Sam along. Text: “It’s up to the women.” Ladies Home Journal, February 1932.
I am pretty happy with the new artwork for my office. Purchased at a suburban antique mall in Kansas this summer. I just love the artwork in magazines from back then.

KVINNEPIONER: Ja, Sangers virke bør diskuteres kritisk. Men Saugstads måte å fremstille historien på, gjør en slik diskusjon vanskeligere å gjennomføre konstruktivt.
My latest piece about Sanger in an exchange with a medical doctor who has offered some now so nuanced takes on her legacy with little evidence to back up his claims. (I’ve also read the footnotes in his book, and I am not so convinced he has read up on things.) www.vl.no/meninger/uli...

Blumenfeld, the receiver of this letter, tied eugenics to progressive education and argued that he and other right-wingers were the true anti-racists.

From a letter to Sam Blumenfeld: "Are you familiar with THE MANKIND QUARTERLY? This is a journal of physical anthropology, published by The Clivedon Press, Suite Comm 2, 1133 13th St. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20005. The old eugenics view was continued in this journal. Ten years ago, it was much criticized as racist, but now there is less of that, and a slow acceptance of its position in some quarters. Thus, we may have a revival of eugenics if this continues.
In the Spring, 1984 number, vol. XXIV, no. 3, there is a long article by Ralph Scott, Director, Educational Clinic, University of Northern Iowa, entitled 'Productive Factors for Increased Levels of Learning.' It has echoes of the old eugenics position, although somewhat modified, in its approach and conclusions."
In a 1984 letter, R. J. Rushdoony commented on the dangers of eugenics and how Mankind Quarterly mainstreamed such ideas in academic circles. At least R. was right about this stuff. From: blumenfeld.campconstitution.net/Other/Rev%20...

Billy Graham's message from Victoria Falls, ZIMBABWE - 1960
Here's the broadcast (which he probably recorded in a studio, not in front of the statue above):

I can’t get over this picture of Billy Graham in shorts and black socks in front of a statue of David Livingstone near Victoria Falls, recording an episode of The Hour of Decision in 1960. From Tom McMahan’s Safari for Souls (1960), which narrated Graham’s 1960 tour of Africa.
