A timetree of Fungi dated with fossils and horizontal gene transfers - Nature Ecology & Evolution Combining fossil-based and molecular calibrations with data on horizontal gene transfer events, the authors develop a time-calibrated phylogeny of Fungi. This timescale, which integrates analytic uncertainties, suggests an older age of crown Fungi (1,401–896 million years ago), as well as a minimum age for ancient interactions involving fungi and the algal ancestors of embryophytes in terrestrial ecosystems (1,253–797 Ma).

Any idea/tips about possible funding sources that could help to barcode these specimens from Madagascar? Starting with a time-series sampling of > 3500 fungal specimens collected 1996-2013.

Many of these old-growth forests: coastal, savannah and dense tropical have been highly impacted by illegal logging.

Molecular work is fundamental for naming this threatened or even vanished fungal diversity.

Another busy weak at @Fungarium_Paris, @isyeb.mnhn.fr with valuable contributions from volunteers in digitising and reconditioning fungal specimens from #Madagascar @Fungarium_Paris hosts an enormous diversity of fungi from Madagascar collected over a Century in different forest types.

Introductory speech for newcomers @mnhn.fr in the impressive Amphitheater Verniquet - 3 departments, 20 research units, 600 associate/Professors, 68M of specimens in collections, 3M of books.
