Inspiring, funny and thought-provoking session from @trythisteaching.bsky.social today with the team at Magna Learning Partnership. So many takeaways and practical ideas to consider. Energised to drive our inclusion agenda at The Trafalgar School at Downton.

Great start to the #swiftconf25 from @profcoe.bsky.social - " be willing to be demonstrably more effective next year than this". Love it!

This sounds great, sorry to have missed it (wasn't even aware of it!). Out of interest, what size is 'small' from a secondary perspective?

Teacher of Computing, Downton, Salisbury, Wiltshire. SP5 3HN - Tes Jobs The Trafalgar School at Downton, United Kingdom

We're looking for an exceptional colleague to join our Computing team in January. I was welcomed into the school community at Easter and can honestly say I've left the car park with a smile on my face every evening. Our students are simply wonderful!

Can anyone point me in the direction of some research or evidence re: impact of background music in Art whilst classes (not individuals) are working independently?

Love this & great to read that my love of being a headteacher is shared by others, even when it seems it's no longer the pinnacle many regarded. After 7 yrs as a head & 3 as exec head I had the chance to move onto a DoE role last year...not for me. 1 term in & still loving headship in my new school!

Difference between a 7 and 6 or 9 and 8 is so small and so reliant on a single response under exam pressure that it doesn't really tell anyone anything. GCSE should really mean what it stands for...a General Certificate of Secondary Education.

I'd be really supportive of something akin to this and was thinking about it today. Merit a level of proficiency with maybe Distinction recognising A-level readiness (not to preclude merit from A-level though) with Pass suggesting further Post 16 study at Level 2 is appropriate...

Phrases that should be banned on results days... "The school's best results ever." Today is about children and not schools. Today, it's their results...plenty of days to come for schools to highlight their own strengths.

Only way I can explain the next 12 hours to non-school friends is to describe it as Christmas eve & morning. The stockings hv been laid, the milk & carrots are out followed by the difficulty in getting to sleep, the restless night and then the rush to see what's under the tree early in the morning.

Would the move away from named facilitating subjects by Russell group also have had an impact?

Really valuable read for all. I cannot stress how important it is for more recognition & training on autism in girls. It is still going unnoticed, leaving many girls alone, suffering & failing to thrive unnecessarily

I think part of the challenge is being more benevolent to those who are trying to engage. The profession has become quick to challenge and oftentimes those quieter voices could be somewhat reluctant to open themselves up to potential criticism when in the early stages of articulating their thoughts.

Thank you for reposting this! Read when in previous post and whilst useful it didn't speak to what our school needed at the time. In my new context this is absolutely the post I need to share with our SLT and middle leaders.

"there is far more variation between schools at the local level than there is regionally..." Another reason why schools/trusts need to take on the challenge of localised school improvement through collaboration.

This is the first year in 18 that I haven't had A-level results and the first ever as a head after the last 7 as head at previous school. I hadn't appreciated that the additional week could have such a positive impact.

Ah, The Leaze, lovely place to play and watch - all thanks to Waitrose who had to rehouse the club after building on their original ground. A rare example of the relocation being an upgrade both in terms of facilities and atmosphere.

SLT...they make the weather for you. You can choose to interact or not to a larger extent with colleagues, you don't get that choice with SLT.

I would advocate FFT or similar estimates for cohorts to give yourselves a benchmark but then not distill then down to individual student level.

Didn't want to go back to 'that' place but this thread took me back to one we had 6 years ago! What's pleasing for me is that my view hasn't changed.
