I’m pretty confident the ppl who design the book don’t even read it half the time — there was an era in YA and mass market romance where every book just had a picture of some random ppl that didnt at all match the descriptions of the characters

TO BE CLEAR I’m pro-smut but they’re hanging out on the same shelf as fantasy adventure and I’m out here getting jumpscared by political intrigue

when nothing looks like smut everything looks like smut 😩

My hot take is that trash books should look like trash books. If I see anymore smut with gilded pages and tasteful botanicals I’m gonna scream. LET BODICE RIPPERS LOOK LIKE BODICE RIPPERS!
Book design signals something to the potential reader and I’m getting VERY MIXED SIGNALS
