After last week's primary election results, Texas AFT COPE has endorsed @jamestalarico.bsky.social for U.S. Senate.👏 His dedicated work on the Public Education Committee during multiple legislative sessions has made Texas AFT confident that Rep. Talarico will stand for education employees in D.C.

“Though often justified as required by state law… Governor-appointed Boards of Regents at public university systems are adopting policies that censor classes in ways that the Texas Legislature refused to pass… violat[ing] the freedom to teach and the freedom to learn protected by the 1st Amendment”

The Unmaking of the American University For decades, research universities have relied on federal funding, with no guarantee that it will last. Now their survival may depend on compliance with the government.

Indoctrination fight raises tensions at University of Houston Some professors push back after a five-page curriculum checklist was unveiled and several deans directed instructors to affirm that they don’t indoctrinate students.

Professors do not indoctrinate students in class but teach them how to think critically and openly.

In the wake of SB 37, University of Houston has introduced syllabi "checklists" and "certifications" to prevent so-called indoctrination in the classroom. This clearly threatens academic freedom.

Correction: Indoctrination IS happening at UT.

It's just the Board of Regents that's doing it.

Academic freedom is under dire threat in Texas - we (in Texas) and all (across the US and world) must stand up for this.

As someone who could only afford to go to the in-state flagship cool in my state, the targeting of UT Austin for destruction by the legislature-governor-provost makes me so sad.

Opinion: Take your feet off our necks Against my better judgment to not put sensitive information in writing — the greatest, yet-to-be-censored lesson the regents still ought to learn — I’m confessing my feelings: I’m exhausted. The regents have officially graduated from demoting deans, botching a professor hiring and firing lecturers to eliminating our Women’s and Gender Studies program. Care to guess...

The Right Expands Its Campaign to Censor College Professors PEN America called 2025 ‘a year of catastrophe for higher education,’ but professors are fighting back against censorship.

“Our vision for a fully-funded public education, where a professor can write and teach freely, and can challenge every vapid, cruel argument federal and state governments make, sustains us. It’s what we’re fighting for.”

What Will Be Left After the University of Texas Destroys Itself? | The Nation UT-Austin has collapsed its race, ethnic, and gender studies into a single program while a new policy asks faculty to avoid “controversial” topics. But the attacks won’t end there.

All Texas universities are under attack.

ALL universities are under attack.

TAMU BOR Chair Albritton’s dismissal of Jon Hagler’s defense of academic freedom as merely ‘his opinion’ ignores an obvious reality: his commitment to Texas A&M is measured not just in words, but in millions of dollars invested in the university’s future.
