“It is irresponsible if ScienceDirect continues to have these AI features. The AI generated texts on ScienceDirect spread misinformation and pollute the scientific knowledge infrastructure. This harms science, researchers, lecturers, students, and ultimately also the public.”

Lonnie G. Bunch III is the head of the Smithsonian. The first Black person to helm the institution and the founding director of the Blacksonian.

And his legacy will be completely overshadowed by his compliance with this authoritarian bullshit which should go against his ethical code as a curator.

I never thought I’d be in an exchange with #Strava about racial slurs being used to name segments…but here we are… #RunSky 🏃🏿‍♂️

Oh Chris, I’m sorry you have to do this, once again! This is a clear example of why every “public facing” organisation needs more diverse teams. Regardless, I’m sure there were many opportunities for them to find those websites well before those segments were named 🤨.

I’ve had the privilege of playing on the same team as Emily several times over the years. She is kind, brave, and deserves the world.

We should call the ban out for what it is: the FA is banning trans kids from playing grassroots sports with their friends. It’s not about protecting women at all.

This goes not just for Zack, but for everyone: stop being squeamish about saying 'trans.'

It's the trans community specifically under attack right now and a trans councillor who's had to resign because of that.

Don't 'all lives matter' it. Say trans.

I slammed table yelling in my very first semester of grad school about the quantity of unpaid labor being demanded from scientists & how if scicomm is so important (AND IT IS) we should actually pay people to specialize in that instead of trying to make people work 6 jobs in a trench coat.

IN 2012.

EHRC issues interim guidance on single-sex spaces It follows the UK Supreme Court's ruling that a woman is defined by biological sex under equalities law.

The actual consequences of an appropriated 'false moral panic' are grim.

It wasn't a false moral panic - as shutting off access for trans people was the ultimate point (which is awful).

UK court defines 'woman'; trans women left in limbo | The Take YouTube video by Al Jazeera English

I gave an interview to Al Jazeera on the Supreme Court judgment, and the surrounding context. I think it's possibly the best thing I've ever done (?) so give it a listen.

Séamas O'Reilly: Trans people have spent a decade being attacked in a moral panic The poor provision of unisex children’s facilities— which reinforces gender stereotypes and inconveniences women and men both — was, incidentally, an issue I remember being quite talked-about a decade...

The UK's political and media class has spent years heaping sadism on trans people, and they want to do the same in Ireland next. Calls for civility and calm won't cut it. We need to fight them tooth and nail.

I have donated, bc I believe trans people should not be persecuted in this manner AND bc not opposing this breach to HR, means allowing it to happen to any one of us (see also policies affecting disabled people, asylum seekers/migrants, workers, the list keeps growing). It’s all connected.

How on earth do you go about explaining to people that your life will not get better or even change at all in any tangible way because of what the Supreme Court and EHRC have said, but my life and those of many of my pals will get worse?

hello venues, LGBTQ+ clubs and organisations, workplaces and pals

Social posts and posters are nice, but we need you to write to the EHRC and tell them their new guidance (see next slides) doesn't work for you

They can't tell people how to run a gay or lesbian club. And they can't make you be toilet cops. Please tell them it doesn't work for you. A quick email or phone call will help a lot. From the EHRC interim guidance:

In workplaces and services that are open to the public:
• trans women (biological men) should not be permitted to use the women's facilities and trans men (biological women) should not be permitted to use the men's facilities, as this will mean that they are no longer single-sex facilities and must be open to all users of the opposite sex
• in some circumstances the law also allows trans women (biological men) not to be permitted to use the men's facilities, and trans men (biological woman) not to be permitted to use the women's facilities

From Phoenix: If we pass too well, we aren't allowed in either gendered toilet or changing room. It's not fair to segregate us, never mind the impact on disabled people if abled trans people use their facilities From the EHRC interim guidance:

Membership of an association of 25 or more people can be limited to men only or women only and can be limited to people who each have two protected characteristics. It can be, for example, for gay men only or lesbian women only. A women-only or lesbian-only association should not admit trans women (biological men), and a men-only or gay men-only association should not admit trans men (biological women).

From Phoenix:
If you run a gay or lesbian club, night, bar, sauna, reading group, walking group etc - the EHRC say you have to exclude trans people or include cishets. Freedom of association is under threat Time is of the essence. They're going to make this guidance statutory and Parliament will make that law soon. We will try to help with template letters etc, but your initial objections should be logged NOW.

We love you, you need to speak up.

Time is of the essence and we need to fight the EHRC interim guidance before it becomes statutory and Parliament make it law.

Don’t just shout about it, write to them. Also tell the media, if you can get them to care. I’ve posted this on Instagram.
