I should also mention that our custom UI kit is now a framework (the MuseScore Framework) which other open source apps are beginning to use. I'm keen to continue developing that, because it benefits FOSS massively.

Accessibility, numerous controls, theming, icons, etc.

To do what you're asking, I'd likely just extend the theming so users can make their own and load theme profiles. That way, they could get what they want without us having to use native controls / themes.

It's possible but when creating cross-platform creative applications - I find it's best to rely on custom UI and theming. If you're going to hand off to an OS, there's an advantage to that, but also a loss of control too. WX Widgets handed control to OS themes but went horribly out of date.

One of the last major features to port from Audacity 3 to Audacity 4 - label tracks. This feature is a monster... but we're almost there.

1. The video I'm currently working on covers the pretty large subject of dance music (EDM, electronic music, etc). As part of this, I'm roving around a lot to soak up experiences outside my comfort zone of London, Brussels, Paris & Berlin.

About ASIO (Open Source license variant) Steinberg ASIO technology is available in open source form under a GNU General Public License, version GPLv3.

Although Audacity was always going to have ASIO support (via a more complex route), this move from Steinberg has just made it a lot simpler. It's a great thing to see.

Since the reaction to our own work is v. positive, my communications were fine. I gave the branding a fair shake - staying neutral (you can't trick people into liking a logo). The reactions help me initiate conversations internally. I don't think I could have done it much better.

If you can get past the terrible logo, Audacity 4 looks pretty great Over 25 years Audacity has gone from simple audio editor, to a UX nightmare. If you can get past the terrible logo, version 4 looks like it might fix that.

For those wondering, this is exactly the reason I wanted to soft-launch the branding: to give me time to deliver the feedback to the creators. Beyond that, I'm incredibly pleased by the reaction to my own team's work.

We'll see with user-testing but I doubt they will prove to be confusing for most. And if they are, it will be a momentary confusion. If I'm wrong, we'll change it.
