I've been watching a few german youtubers the past year or so and them talking about whatever Is Happening Somewhere is the only connection i got

it does also add to it that the past 15 years or so the online spaces I've been in were mostly english language and very international with the combination of not watching linear tv anymore so i have honestly no connection to german pop culture anymore so idk what's going on there that much

of course there's a movie or series here and there that are a hit but it's really just not that many. why are the only examples i can think of bully herbig movies and hausmeister krause.

the only area where german productions were relevant in my teens was reality tv kinda stuff and sometimes quiz shows/competitions and i would say that is also a lot of the stuff that teens are watching now on youtube and twitch while streaming series from the US keep being more relevant

there's actually something very funny about being an immigrant in a country and then the media you consume the most is from two entirely different countries. it does become less funny when u remember that's just the media landscape here.
