Y'know, this whole trip has really highlighted how growing up separately from my family really meant I ended up different.

I learned so many things that I never would have learned with them.

Oh it was some 12 years ago but it did affect it a lot for a while. I only recently returned to traditional art because it was my writing hand.

To my dad's credit, he actually tried to make openings for me to speak but I got spoken over each time.

I'm 35 and I still somehow managed to feel like a child stuck at the adult table and unable to get a word in.

We haven't seen each other in 15 years and all I got to tell them is how I blew my finger off and I have a partner. That's it in several hours.

But they were nice enough

Getting ready to go see my dad and others in my family want to see me. It's a little weird since most of them haven't seen me since I was 15 and only spoken a few times over those years.

We're all basically strangers, I wonder what will happen.

Success really is the greatest revenge. When folks who tried to be rid of you fail and you come out as the show runner. Suddenly, they're mad they don't have a seat at the table they tried to flip.

My friend group is fun, kind, honest, and brave. We uplift each other and encourage each other. It's a joy to be loved, respected, and celebrated.

Everytime I remember the fear in old groups I just shudder and feel kind of bad for those folks still afraid of thier own friends.

For just a little while, survival mode turned off and I could sleep. I could relax. I could create. I felt safe and I didn't grind my teeth or clench my muscles. I wasn't sick.
