WBC stuff is meaningless in the context of the team. Their good players are playing well, as they should. They still need a bat. But seemingly too late now.
The WBC rules are a bit convoluted. The coaches aren’t there for that. USA Baseball or MLB should have designated somebody to feed him that info. Apparently they did not.

It’s astonishing Team USA didn’t have somebody on the staff (GM Michael Hill?) whose job was to make sure Mark DeRosa knew the scenarios well before first pitch last night. What a mess.
No renewals for the Red Sox. Their 20 pre-arb players agreed to one-year deals. Among them: Abreu, Durbin, Early, Eaton, Kelly, Mayer, Montaserio, Slaten, Sogard, Tolle, and Weissert.
However this plays out for Team Italy, what a confidence booster for Greg Weissert.

Nate Eaton has returned from the WBC.
Cora was excited about the play Duran made in the WBC last night when he dug a ball out of the corner in RF and made a perfect relay throw when Roman Anthony was thrown out at the plate.
Duran has only 4 innings in RF the last 3 years and Sox coaches had worked hard with him on making that play.

RHP Chase Shugart is with the Phillies. He was a 2018 Sox draft pack who made his debut in 2024. He was traded to the Pirates before the '25 season then to the Phillies in January.
