I just don't think it derisks the move, and I think for Spurs, it really caps how talented a player you can ever attract. But many upon many EPL players didn't deliver after switching teams

11.08.2025 01:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't mind it, I just think that it's very limiting if you are only open to transfers for players who have played in the league before. That said, I very much coveted Savinho before he went to City, so I still think he's a great player
11.08.2025 00:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Last I checked, you didn't have a senior enough role in player acquisition for Spurs for the Kool Aid Man to come to your place, but it's been a minute so things may have changed

There are 61.05 square miles of land area in Washington DC, so just over a half a square mile per agent, seems like a great ratio of manpower to territory, no notes
10.08.2025 20:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Screenshot from Twitter: Andrew Cuomo: Today, I am proud to announce that I will be proposing βZohranβs law," a law that will keep the rich out of New Yorkβs affordable housing. @ZohranKMamdani : you say freeze the rent. But for who? Rich people like you? Hardworking, working class New Yorkers are being pushed from their neighborhoods. Letβs build affordable housing that helps the people who need it. Under Zohranβs law, landlords can no longer rent vacant rent-controlled units to the wealthy. You are a rich person stealing affordable housing from the poor. And youβre not the only one. Itβs past time we address this injustice. Letβs build a new NYC that works for the people who need it.
Run him the fuck out of town. Now.

I don't disagree. I just think it's not an evolution of tactics as much as it is more teams who are competitive at the talent and analytic level - more teams can do interesting things now instead of the interesting things to do are different now. Ymmv of course about how different the two views are
09.08.2025 17:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Interesting. My sense with Lankshear was that he went to West Brom who got Armstrong just after and he was buried behind him on the bench more than he was shit, but I didn't see hardly any of the games so I could easily have been wrong.
09.08.2025 17:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My question about this has to do with how many of Spurs' loanees have gone on loan and not played much - Veliz, Scarlett, Lankshear last year for example. Obviously that's to a degree on the player, but it's not helping the club much that I can tell.
09.08.2025 17:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't think it's the same as what Klopp did, but I also think that Klopp altered his system every match, just like every top manager does. This feels like the "Ange only plays one way" thing. Maresca's game plan was both specific to that match, and also true to the principles he always uses.
09.08.2025 16:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Head to head, Klopp vs Pep:
Klopp 11 wins
Pep 10 wins
8 draws
Y'all can think what you please, but I maintain that this framing is simply incorrect
Always
09.08.2025 15:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't believe that it's news to anyone 15 years after Klopp first won the Bundesliga with Dortmund how this works. It's not that PSG is "outwitted" - Chelsea executed and PSG didn't.
09.08.2025 15:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Any team can win or lose any game, so seeing more into it I think is silly. But it's still really variations on three themes: high line, mid block, and low block. And while each of the three types gets more variety, it's always more about execution than one of the three ideas being "better" I think
09.08.2025 15:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Rangnick pressing revolution meanwhile was about how to create offense by disrupting opposition attacks and then fast, direct attacks before the opponent can get back into a settled defense. This is still what we're talking about. So what he's talking about is variations on Klopp, really
09.08.2025 15:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't know; none of this seems like much to me. The original Pep innovation was that you can defend by having technically excellent players who keep possession - teams can't attack without the ball. Lots of tweaks to this idea keep making it viable in different ways for technical enough teams

Such a delight to be back at the Delacorte last night for the return of Shakespeare in the Park, and charmed by @bradlander.bsky.social fabulous introduction. It's a joyous and hilarious production of Twelfth Night with a stellar cast and I can't recommend it enough.
09.08.2025 15:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I would be pretty cautious in saying that Chelsea beating PSG in the club world cup has any broad tactical implications. If I had to identify what Pep is talking about, it's that more teams are pressing sides, not just sitting back and playing on the counter. Which, yes, sure
09.08.2025 14:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0None of those four teams play all that much like one another. And it also seems kind of disingenuous given that the two most dominant forms of football last season were Enrique and Flick. Not that I expect veracity from Pep in the press
09.08.2025 13:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0The older I get, the more I want my sports fandom to be like watching a long running soap opera: there are heroes and villains, plot twists and turns, and while I have my hates and favorites, I enjoy the continuing nature of the story. Some seasons are better than others, but so it goes

08.08.2025 20:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't have any sense of doom or anxiety about the coming season for Spurs. I don't think they will be good, but I look forward to seeing and rooting for them and I'm sure there will be interesting players whose game grows in cool ways and it's fun to see what happens. I want to see what happens

08.08.2025 19:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think that Elliot is the more expensive El Khannouss - a left footer who is a 10/RW hybrid - Elliot probably more a wing, El Khannouss more a 10. Bergvall is doing great where he is and should keep getting to become hopefully a world class 6/8
