On this funerary marble relief, a woman reaches out to lift the lid of a thin box held by an attendant. “Who with the Father and the Son, he is worshiped and glorified” Why is this in the creed? It solves a problem: there is no reference in the Bible to the adoration of the Holy Spirit as God. But, if the Holy Spirit is God (and He is), then He must be.

1/ There is nothing that demonstrates Christian Nationalism-driven American Evangelicalism as clearly as a man with a Cross on his back ... with a wheel underneath it to make the load easier to carry.

2/ The Cross of Christ is heavy enough that it requires ALL of our being to lift it and follow Jesus. The bloody Cross of Christ weighs as much as the whole world it holds up to God. It weighs as much as every soul, put together, it exists to reunite with Christ.

3/ The Cross will always be heavy, onerous, and foreign to those who hold Caesar's scepter and sword. The hands that relinquish the sword and Caesar's staff will find its weight changes as Christ takes up the burden.

4/ A Cross on a wheel is a perfect metaphor for those who try to performatively carry the Cross, but make the load light, artificially.
