Two prayers for "After the Communion" in the appendix of additional prayers in the 1662 IE, the first adapted from the Church of Kenya's BCP and the second abbreviated from the Church of Ireland's BCP:

O Lord, how long shall the ungodly,
how long shall the ungodly triumph?
How long shall all evildoers speak so disdainfully
and make such proud boasting?

Psalm 94, Deus ultionum, vv.3-4

This article contains some fascinating history about the introduction of the vernacular mass, and the issues that still surround the Latin Mass. Recommended

B. The West Syrian-Byzantine Office

…

The cycle of eight daily prayer offices in the Byzantine Rite consists of the following:

Vespers (at sundown)
Compline (before sleep)
The Midnight Office (chanted in the middle of the night or early in the morning)
Matins (the longest of the day, which traditionally ends as the sun is rising)
First Hour (chanted at the rising of the sun)
Third Hour (chanted at the third hour of the dayβ€”approximately 9:00 AM)
Sixth Hour (chanted at noon)
Ninth Hour (chanted at the ninth hour of the dayβ€”approximately 3:00 PM

On the great feasts of the liturgical year as well as on certain feast days (and in the Slavic tradition, on every Saturday night) there is a particularly solemn service called the All-Night Vigil that combines Vespers, Matins and First Hour, with special additions, into a single long service. This office has become known in the West through Sergei Rachmaninov's ethereal choral masterpiece All-Night Vigil.

The Byzantine Vespers in particular shows the merger of cathedral and monastic elements. At its heart is a lucernarium, Vespers psalms (140, 141, 129, 116) with incensation, three readings, a litany, and blessing, to which monastic psalmody has been prefixed. The presidential prayers now bunched at the beginning of both Vespers and Orthros (Matins) were once scattered throughout the offices. The dangling doxologies that are now scattered throughout indicate the original places of these collects. The present Orthros or Matins is a compilation of four separate offices: the royal office (a brief service for the emperor celebrated in imperial monastic foundations, but really unrelated to the time of Matins), monastic nocturns, the cathedral vigil, and the morning office, which includes Lauds.

Last Sunday was the final Sunday in Epiphany this year (unusually short), before the 'Gesimas begin tomorrow. Here is a look back at the Epiphany 3 readings, which continued a course of readings in Romans 12. The theme: an altruism that is as universal as humanity.
