The rolling-layoffs thing is long running feature of the game industry. Back in the day it was essentially standard practice to lay off the majority of the team the instant a game was finished. People got sick of that and jumped ship to companies that planned better, so it mostly died out. Mostly.
If I had a nickel for every time a game I shipped got nominated for a major award after I was laid off, I'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's extremely depressing that it happened twice.

It's mind blowing dark, in a literal sense. Even the scenes that happen during broad daylight are mostly black on the screen. I couldn't tell what I was seeing for most of the movie!

I went and saw the man, the myth, the 1999 legend DARUDE play a set recently. The crowd engagement was directly correlated to how much the song sounded like Sandstorm (side note: he has a lot of songs that sound like Sandstorm)
