I've been on Bluesky since November 2023. I've enjoyed it. People used alt text, people agreed to disagree.

Not any more. I've seen more hatred and abuse on here in the last few days than I ever saw at Twitter. I'm not staying for that.

I'll keep my account, but I'm done with this platform.

I'm sorry to read this opinion. Until a few weeks ago Bluesky felt like a pleasant place, where you could express opinions that others might disagree with but still have a respectful conversation (exactly what you're saying about anti-vaxers, in fact!). But now it's become as toxic as Twitter.

A black crosshatched pen and rolled ink on white paper illustration of a man out walking in the countryside. He wears a long coat and bowler hat, he stands on a gently sloping hillside, leafless trees either side of him. An eerie foggy glow behind him as the last light of the setting sun makes him and the trees a silhouette on the hill. Spooky and atmospheric.

Apparently it’s world introvert day which is basically my Christmas Day. I’m giving myself the present of a solo stroll. Here’s my illustration of another solo walker…The Visitor from The Signal Man by Charles Dickens. Enjoy your day fellow introverts 👊🏻

Kalendis Ianuariis, mures temptant deambulare (On the first of January, the mice try to go for a walk). Minimus manum Silvii tenaciter prendit, ne ventus filium auferat. (Minimus holds Silvius' paw tightly, in case the wind carries his son away).

A bunny arrives at a row of ramshackle buildings along a canal in a city. They are inhabited by some friendly-looking birds, rats and other bunnies. In the background a tram goes by, and behind it a clocktower is visible from one of the wealthier parts of town.

Hogfather million to one chance search

Hi everyone, this is a huge longshot but wondering if any of you lovely folk might be able to help. My partner just told me that her dad (who sadly died more than 20 years ago) gave her a hardback copy of Hogfather, but it got lost in one of her moves not long after he died.

I doubt we'd ever find it, but it would be an amazing New Year miracle if we could discover it and I could buy it back if it's still out there. It's signed in the front cover "To Anthea" and probably says from Dad or similar.

Like I say, it's a million to one chance...

Thanks for reading.

Copied (with permission) from a discworld group I’m in if anyone can help even if it’s just a share

LFGSS and Microcosm shutting down 16th March 2025 (the day before the Online Safety Act is enforced) | LFGSS

I've never even heard of LFGSS, which sounds like an amazing community, but it's quite obvious how this is all going to go for small online groups generally and why it's a fucking stupid idea.

You see, this is when I remember all the great music I heard during the year. How could I not have mentioned Julie Christmas?

British people - have a look at this thread, and then tell me you're not thinking of leaving Bluesky too? It's full of America-is-the-only-country types, old shouty people, mansplainers, and the too ignorant to realise they're ignorant.

Bunnies depict the end of the Anime "Mobile Suit Gundam". One lone bunny in a spacesuit drifts in space towards a small space vessel. Other bunnies, his crewmates, all happily come out to greet him, arms outstretched.

A pair of robots in the form of earmuffs - each round disc that fits over the ears is an individual robot, with a smiling face and little legs on the bottom. They are connected by a arched hoop, and the robot in the front has a two-penal read out towards the top of its front surface that reads "5" and "11", in classic 'seven-segment' digital display font. Both robots face the same way, curiously, so that the rear robot's face would actually be pressed against the wearer's ear. Presumably this is to ensure they walk in the same direction.

23) Mufflebots. These paired robots automatically find your pet on a predetermined date and protect their precious ears from loud fireworks and other alarming noises. #SmallRobotsRemastered

I'm an immigrant, and I must say he does have the kind of face you'd want to punch. Hardly unprovoked though.

As we descend into 2025, remember:
* Western governments are terrified of collective action and don't know how to deal with it
* Join a Union
* For every billionaire there are millions of potential Luigis
* They're literally killing us and the planet we all live on and they must be stopped

A family of bunnies is going mushroom gathering. One of them stumbles upon a ring of rare mushrooms, and gestures excitedly at their find. The second bunny, with one eyebrow raised, flips through their mushroom identification book incredulously. The rare mushrooms look extremely suspicious, and are colored a sickly purple and green.

Daily bunny no.2820 has an abundance of caution

Me: carefully chooses wines for both Christmas and New Year that aren't overtly oaky

Systembolaget: neglects to mention the overwhelming fake flavour of oak in both

I'm so fucking sick of this stupid monopoly and their *terrible* taste in wine.
