The state law requiring certification went into effect a few years ago, but our IT is only just now checking and enforcing it. We received no prior notification about these requirements. The sudden enforcement is probably due to the "hardening state government" executive orders.
Attention Texas researchers - if you use cloud based services for online experiments, the service needs to be TX-RAMP certified or its not allowed for data collection. TAMU IT shut down multiple labs using Pavlovia. Pavlovia is not willing to seek certification so we're out of luck. bit.ly/46tt7Eq
Syllabi on the other hand, vary by instructor and convey the exact topics to be covered. The courses at the center of this controversy were quite clear that they covered LGBTQ+ topics. Whether or not you agree that these topics should be taught, the student(s) knew they were coming.
The catalog course descriptions are required to be very brief (50-60) and broad enough to cover any potential instructor. Unless the department chooses to update them due to a major curriculum change, they could remain the same for decades.
Iβm on the search committee and happy to answer questions.
We're hiring! We have an open TT faculty position in lifespan neuroscience. I'm not on the committee but happy to answer questions about the department and TAMU more generally (I also co-chaired similar searches the last two years). Come join us, please share widely. apply.interfolio.com/172150
I imagine the recruitment flyers for this study said "Do you even lift bro?!?!"

Unfortunately, the NSF grant that supports our work has been terminated. This is a setback, but our mission has not changed. We will continue to work hard on making cognitive science a more inclusive field. Stay tuned for upcoming events.
Great news: NIH postbac program is recruiting again! If your grad school plans were affected by program cutbacks or admissions freezes this year I highly encourage you to apply, this could be a perfect opportunity. Please repost.

Very happy to have you joining the lab!
A very helpful article from Andy Jahn - I've been teaching a hands on fMRI analysis course for a few years and the biggest hurdle is students lack of coding knowledge and/or inexperience with unix/linux. I spend too much time troubleshooting. Excited to check out neurodesk as an option.
In a #CNS2025 Q&A, Marie Banich discusses how her early research laid the foundation for groundbreaking work on how the brain can purge unwanted thoughts. Get this preview of her Distinguished Career Contributions Award lecture here: cogneurosociety.org/leveraging-b...
