One of the miracles of teaching is we get 2

This just an admission that the current model of education is "Get the right answer" when we could have had "Be a better human" since 1917.
AI is just pointing out the flaws in a deeply flawed system.

More schools are banning smartphones to boost focus and well-beingโbut do the results match the hype? Here's what the research says and what it means for teachers.

My first ISTELive was 2004, & I was amazed at the vast array of ideas, presenters, & people you start talking to. It's easy to forget the S stands for Society, people working together.
#ISTELive 2025 was my 8th, 4th as a presenter & probably the best one yet.
Thanks @isteofficial.bsky.social

We're heading to an educator conference at the end of the month, hoping to teach some STEM teachers to solder at our booth.
After being inspired by what other's have done with @oshpark.bsky.social's after dark, I threw together the design for a sick new soldering badge with twinkling LED stars.

To quote Ella Flagg-Young "Some day the system will be such, teachers and students will go to school filled with ecstatic joy. In the evening students will speak about what they did and will speak with pride."
I teach AI, I train teachers in AI..... but AI is not what you think it is for learning.
Schools should be learning palaces. Not daycare centers, not holding pens, but places where inspiration, curiosity and wonder are the norm, not the exception.
The marks of learning should be shouts of "look what I figured out!' proudly holding high the artifact of their discoveries.
The changes that need to happen in education as a result of AI is that schools need to be more Human. Forget the right answers. Ask the beautiful questions. Build things, break things, put them back together again in new ways.
Prove the pythagorean theorem with interpretive dance.
AI will never inspire students to make street tacos based on varying local customs. AI will never tell you about someone with "Ojos de tapatรญo". AI will never play Jacques Brel and have the whole class silently in tears.
AI will never teach you that numbers can dance and reveal the Universe.
Yes, AI will change how schools operate, but we have to demand more than just "get the right answer".
Teachers are not childcare workers. Teachers are intellectual Prometheus, stealing fire from the gods to ignite the minds of students towards Original Thinking and towards a desire for truth.
Thorndike was using education as a platform for eugenics, and wanted to prove that some ethnic groups were less intelligent and therefore less human than others.
The idea of learning as simply "getting the right answer" is eugenics, pure and simple.
