Old enough to remember when the Branch Davidian compound in Waco set itself on fire.
Everything is very dumb.
Sadly it was a box office bomb. Universal shelved his King Kong remake around the same time. It did however allow for a great expansion of his WETA F/X studio, which was key to making LOTR.
Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners is even better than I’d remembered it, but TIL that Andie MacDowell isn’t in it. My apologies to Trini Alvarado.
I got to visit the set one day. As has been discussed after the fact, they riffed constantly. If every scene happened like the one I watched, there must be enough for 200 versions of the movie.
Who told this place I’d be here? 🤔
💚
“That comic book convention, my friends..." MTV News sat up and ran multiple mini-studios at SDCC a few years later. There was even a comic book movie hub on the MTV site for a while. Now, MTV News is no more🥹. But I'll be back at SDCC once again in 2023. 3/3.
Then they cut the beta crew. By the time the weekend arrived, I was told I could go by myself if I wanted. But they wouldn't cover gas, let alone a hotel. I stayed on a friend's couch. I came back w/ several interviews with A-list actors & filmmakers. "Wait, where were you?" 2/
San Diego Comic-Con, 2003. I told my bosses at MTV News we should cover it. At first, they approved a beta shooter (remember those?), an audio person, a DV shooter & one of the New York on-air correspondents to come with me. As SDCC got closer, they cut the correspondent. 1/
My recent activity on Letterboxd is full of black metal, slasher schlock, religious cults, and European eroticism which is all almost depressingly on brand for me. 🤷🏻♂️
My favorite of America’s founders. Happy 4th of July!
June 30, you say?
Barry stuck the landing.
I see this place already has the “I ‘follow’ 50,000 accounts” people.
It's time
Here we go again I guess?
