i made a lil app for printing a QR code that lets guests easily get on your wifi. put it on your fridge or wall.
yes, there are already pages that do this, but i think mine looks better. enjoy

the best thing about having analytics on your website is finding people who link to you across the web.
today I discovered this lovely piece by @korben.info. thank you for the writeup, korben!

haha yep i had the same thought when trying out your scrapp.
we have a design that solves this, but haven't implemented it yet. it's high on the list of obvious shortcomings, and your feedback makes me wanna fix it :)
the browser tab will now have the name of the scrapp instead of just "Scrappy"

that's super helpful actually. thanks!
iCloud passwords is what i rely on (even though having to input the stupid 2FA code every time i restart my computer has gotten old fast)
they are still supporting it with bug-fixes and chromium updates, right? i don't really feel a need for more features. i suspect i'll end up with zen for snappiness and arc for my chromium needs
please let me know how you find zen!
maybe there's a really good, hidden reason they don't

before they could sometimes open at the edge of the viewport, which was confusing.
a bar at the top that lets you navigate to your list of scrapps, rename your scrapp, and share your creation more easily.
(note to self: next time you launch something, make sure there's a prominent share button from the start)
basic touchscreen support! You can now pan and zoom and tap buttons on your phone or tablet.
many scrapps make the most sense on a phone, so Scrappy felt incomplete without at least basic support.
it's been great to see so much support for Scrappy! ❤️
we intended to take a break from the project after launching it last week, but i got a boost of motivation to fix some low-hanging fruit that have been nagging me.
i'll list what's new in this thread. go to scrappy.jrcpl.us to try for yourself!

and thanks, it's really helpful to learn what you are missing :)
Maybe it's just the people I tend to follow, but I'm seeing more and more projects wanting to give people a way out of the big tech silos. DIY apps, servers (like my project dropserver.org) etc...

We've been driven by
- a wish to democratize computing, which Hypercard promised but never realized
- a curiosity about how modern canvas UI, realtime collaboration, and effortless link sharing changes that promise
- a frustration with the incredible complexity of the modern software stack
A few examples of scrappy little apps (we call them "scrapps"):
- math practice for a elementary school kid
- attendee counter to make sure you don't go over capacity at a venue
- clock showing how much money a meeting is costing, ticking up every second
All of these were made in < 30 mins.
As a kid, I learned to program in HyperCard, a fantastic thing from Apple in the 1990s which empowered normal people to make homemade software. Last fall @pontus.granstrom.me started exploring and reinterpreting these ideas for 2025. Excited to share our writeup: pontus.granstrom.me/scrappy/
19.05.2025 13:18 — 👍 147 🔁 28 💬 13 📌 10We've been curious about a world where small everyday problems — chore schedule, productivity timer, office inventory, etc — can be solved with just a sprinkle of computation on top of a shared document. Instead of finding a "app for that", make it yourself!
19.05.2025 13:38 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0No need to think about persistence or syncing — that all works by default. Like a google doc or minecraft server, each app is like a shared little world.
19.05.2025 13:24 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The tool is an infinite canvas of dynamic objects. You attach small pieces of code to the objects to make them do stuff. This lets you build scrappy lil apps. Here's me making a simple counter.
