5/5. To maintain autonomy precludes silence.

Inaction from fear is complicity, rendering the ability to effect change incontrovertibly moot in any level of representative government.

Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. If you see something, say something.

And never, never, never give up.

4/5. People are always against some particular things and for others; collective identity is fabricated only by a protracted political war of position (which can fail). (Laclau 2005)

Nonetheless, the polarization of elite attitudes appears to lead to the polarization of mass attitudes. (Art 1972)

3/5. Portraying marginalized groups as collectively delinquent/illegal is a means of normalizing diffusion of a state's responsibility. If evidence can be dismissed as myth, illegal state discipline can be perpetrated as the unfortunate consequence of a badly organized state. (Traverso 2003)

2/5. Modern states tend to function as a monopoly of legitimate use/authorization of physical force. (Weber 1918)

An alliance between counter-educational sentiment and faceless technologies for exercising control can result in lack of accountability for punitive state violence. (Foucault 1975)

1/5. Deeply troubling.

At the risk of getting lost in words, a humble thread.

Willful autonomy and centralized authority are in apparent contraposition among three distinct branches of government and fifty individual self-governing entities as well as millions of individuals with agency.

Sign the Petition Stop the National Autism Registry: Protect Our Children’s Privacy and Human Rights

Autism is a new diagnosis for part of the range of ordinary human behavior. When it requires a medical diagnosis or treatment, no one's right to privacy should be violated. If parents need help or resources for autistic kids, it is their business and their choice.

"Inherit the Wind" book cover

"Inherit the Wind" book cover

Then and now...

Speaking of interesting reads, I first learned about the Scopes trial through the fictionalized account in the 1955 play, "Inherit the Wind." The title is from a particular Bible verse -

"He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind..."
Proverbs 11:29

Disability is not a deviation from the norm, but a part of the spectrum of ordinary human variation.

Anyone may become part of this minority at any time without warning.

Victimizing disability is a form of social oppression, and is anathema to any sustainable model of human society.
