A bigger budget means we can make Manchester better!

I met with S4B Housing Association recently to see some of their fantastic regeneration of Brunswick Village Extra Care right here in my constituency!
I also had the chance to raise concerns constituents have with their housing provider to ensure everyone has a safe place to live.
Was happy to bump into volunteers fundraising for Marie Curie and helping them to care for people in their last days of life.
Productive meeting with members of the University of Manchester's Student Union - we discussed student loan repayments and the cost of living for students.
Thank you to the Labour Muslim Network and Islamic Relief UK hosting such a lovely iftar this week.πΉπ΄π«
Our asylum system must always make sure that young refugees can learn, build relationships, and plan for their futures.
I asked the Minister for Asylum to reassure us that the Home Secretary is committed to creating stability for unaccompanied children, some of the most vulnerable asylum seekers.
Always a pleasure to be out campaigning in Fallowfield with the Labour councillors collecting casework and speaking to people on the doorstep!πΉ
This is why the definition of anti-Muslim hostility was desperately needed. We can now begin to turn the tide on the hate Muslims face day in and day out.
Had such a lovely time at the Manchester Central Mosque's interfaith iftar over the weekend.π«π
Especially after the recent events at this very mosque, it was great to see our community coming together to enjoy time with each other.
I want to explain exactly why we needed a definition of anti-Muslim hostility. I've fought hard for this for nearly a decade and I know that this will help us tackle the hatred Muslims face.πΉβͺοΈ
Read here why.ποΈ
π¨ The people we work with are tired of being endlessly scapegoated and denied the right to a life that is free from fear and suffering.
Someone in the group from Boaz who is attending the mass lobby today told us this: β¬οΈ

Thank you so much to my colleagues for re-electing me as the chair of the APPG on Parks and Green Spaces!π³βοΈ
Constituents! If you want to get involved with the Great British Spring Clean, join a local clean up event.πΏπ£
I'm deeply proud to have campaigned so hard for a definition of anti-Muslim hostility and to be a member of a Labour Party that introduced it.πΉ
Now the work begins to make sure that this definition works for Muslims in Britain and that it has buy-in from our Muslim communities.β

Great to be in Ardwick to celebrate International Women's Day with our fantastic Labour Councillor Tina Hewitson.ππΉ
Yesterday the Labour Government announced a definition of anti-Muslim hostility.πΉ
This has been a decade long campaign of mine to give Muslims protection from the hate and discrimination we face on a daily basis.βͺοΈ
The Labour Government has released the long-awaited definition of anti-Muslim hostility.
This is a proud moment for me - but now the work begins on making sure this definition works for Muslim communities.

For too long children's safety online has been ignored. This ends with Labour.
Our consultation is asking the public on what protections they want to see put in. This Labour Government has already put steps in place so that what you want is put in quickly.

Happy International Women's Day!πββοΈ
As the home of Emmeline Pankhurst and her Womenβs Social and Political Union, Manchester has always had a rich feminist history.
I'm proud to represent a city that has always championed progressive movements and campaigned tirelessly for the rights of others.π³οΈ
Millions of people are now benefitting from Labour's freeze on rail fares - the first freeze in 30 years - saving passengers a staggering Β£600 million.π
I've booked Birch Community Centre for so many of my coffee mornings and events - and from pilates to Spanish lessons I know so many others use this space!
But their boiler has broken and they're trying to fundraise for it. They're so close still need your help.

Great to be back in Moss Side so soon after our last campaign session to meet with more constituents and pick up casework!
Today is the beginning of British Science Week.
Having two world-leading universities with fantastic science departments, scientists in my constituency are always at the forefront of new revolutionary breakthroughs - even the atom was discovered here!
The annexation of land in the State of Palestine is illegal. It's a moral failure not to stand against it.
I signed a letter to demand sanctions on illegal settlers in the West Bank, to impose trade bans on settlers and for transparency over the UK's response to the unlawfulness of the occupation.
Thanks to our Labour councillors - libraries in my constituency are staying open longer with some being open 7 days a week!
This is because our Labour councillors passed a historic Β£1 billion budget - only possible thanks to our Labour Government's massive investment in local councils.
I hosted a meeting for Parliamentarians with Ambassadors from nine Arab countries about the concerning situation in the Middle East.
We need to return to diplomatic negotiations between Iran, the US and Israel, end hostilities, and push for a two-state solution in Palestine and Israel for peace.
Happy World Book Day!ποΈ
As the days get lighter and the temperature get's warmer I know I'll be unwinding with an interesting bookβοΈ
It is wrong to stop people fleeing war and persecution from having the ability to come to the UK legally and claim asylum. The Home Office's proposals punish vulnerable populations and are using these communities as scapegoats.
I have written to the Home Secretary to outline my deep concerns.
Labour-run Manchester City Council has passed a historic budget - the first over Β£1 billion thanks to fairer funding from this Labour Government.
That's millions to fund projects you care about: looking after our parks, cleaning up our streets, and regenerating our buildings and roads.
I'm at the United Nations in Geneva learning more about the UN's convention on refugees.
The Home Office's plan to only allow refugees temporary statuses undermines our commitment to their safety, and the historic role of the UK in creating the convention.
Manchester is a proud city of sanctuary.
