IMO far-right "debate" is mostly about controlling the narrative on a given issue. It's about establishing a given falsehood (i.e. "trans people are evil" or "peaceful protesters are actually far-left terrorists") and cementing it in far-right circles as a way to establish and normalise it.
Personally I think the idea that politics should be about "debate" is an incredibly toxic one anyway.
IMO it just encourages the idea that basic human rights and needs are something that can be haggled or bargained for rather than fundamental necessities that should be provided by government.

I feel like a lot of conservatives see politics as somehow this sacrosanct, untouchable thing and that your political decisions or beliefs shouldn't have any lasting consequences for your life or relationships.
Honestly, the comparison between conservative politics and sports is an apt one IMO.
You have a "team" and invest yourself in them emotionally and support them unconditionally while lashing out at anyone who you see as part of the "wrong team".
I feel like the overlap is very strong.
I would also argue these kinds of policies of voter suppression and undermining democracy are ultimately designed to either remove any real avenues for opposition or force opponents of such policies to either check out of politics altogether or leave the state, thus strengthening those in power.
It's a tired old chestnut honestly.
IMO the whole urban/rural "rivalry" is a distraction from more significant issues like the consolidation of wealth and corporate power which comes at the expense of marginalised urban and rural communities alike.

To be honest, I don't think this is an "average person" issue.
None of us are immune to negative influences or manipulation. But I will point out AI is being heavily embraced by the super rich and powerful and having any kind of position of power is demonstrably corrosive to one's mental function.
I also suspect that he might not have anticipated how people might engage with things of this nature from a perspective of mental health problems or instability and certainly wouldn't have imagined it being used a tool used by malignant narcissists and those in power to reinforce themselves.
