I mean, even within the piece they’re articulating the logic which created the dynamic they lament. Wokeness a concept created and associated with Black people is by definition scolding and overbearing, whereas race science has a naughty frisson, even as they describe being shouted down as a woman.
If anything, even now, considering the fallout of Black women pushed out of the workforce would be characterized as “woke” nonsense. As we see the consequences of just this politics all around us the complete dismissal is what they hold fast to.
They’re concerned about their career consequences for coming out against the rampant misogyny aimed towards them now, after directly working to have thousands of women pushed from the workforce. Those women already affected, their targets, are never in the frame of these discussions.
And I feel like this should be put into conversation because just who the promise of protection was targeted towards and the targets of “transgression” through race science etc is very salient to why they held an affinity for the right.

One of the things I think people should grapple with is the easy description of “Peak Woke” as haughty moralism, only to then describe the “race science” of the right as a secret thrill. Feels like the “woke” people knew about the race science, but even in these mea culpas, it can’t be said.
