I'm the Black Stapler. I will tidy your papers, but if you are a villain, I will fail to puncture completely through the stack.

In NY it is illegal to fire someone for lawful political activity. Where else?

Being smug is not against the law and it certainly does not warrant the death penalty.

I was explaining to employees how no tax on overtime actually works and someone said to me, "but President Trump said that we would be getting a refund on all the taxes we paid on OT." Lol.

Look how young! I never got to see the Sex Pistols, but I saw PIL many times. Johnny is one of the most dynamic performers I've seen.

I think that the author has talent, but lacks maturity and depth.

The most terrifying book I've ever read - and I am not easy to scare.

Pretty kitty next to backgammon board Cat at a laptop Fluffy tabby cat sitting on book shelf Kitty blepping

Heartbroken at the passing of my sweet Elli, aka The Peanut and the goodest girl ever. She loved backgammon, doing payroll, reading, and me. I will miss her every day. #catsofbluesky

Storygraph for November. Kinda light, but I had a lot going on this month. Hard to concentrate.

It's insane to me that I pay a company a ridiculous amount of money to decide whether or not I can get health care and those decisions are based on that's company's bottom line and whatever scant consumer protections the government has decided to impose.

Yeah, but it still broke my heart. I'm still not over Elliot Spitzer.

But if they are talking about jobs, employers are asked to submit those numbers every month. Can't they just send out requests for October's numbers? I didn't get a request in October, but if they sent one to me now I can get them the data lickety split.

I have over 20 years of managing annual open enrollments and I can say positively that Americans don't want to work that hard at getting insurance.

Ken Follet is a good storyteller. His style is so simple that the barrier between words and the story disappears. But there aren't wow moments where you are marveling at a beautiful or perfect sentence. Complete contract with McEwan whose writing is so beautiful the story almost doesn't matter.

Cranky message for the day. To liquor store cashiers and restaurant servers - it's not adorable when you say to me, "are you sure you're over 21?" I'm 59 years old. I do not think for one second that you think that I look like I'm under 30. And frankly, it feels patronizing and infantilizing.

This is exactly what we have been talking about in our pantry committee meetings - the community is going to get tapped out. Fund raisers and food drives will be less and less effective. We are trying to unite the pantries and combine efforts, so we at least aren't competing with each other.
