Screenshot of My City app showing the plus shaped church piece as the first piece of the game. It cannot fit legally next to the sawmill, which is where the first piece must be played. It's a church, so you can't pass it according to the rules of the games, so the player must end the game immediately.

Hmm we thought we had controlled for these edge cases but it looks like today's Daily Challenge forces everyone to end the challenge on the first turn. πŸ˜… This is the trouble with randomly generating maps!

Looks like everyone will score -88 today πŸ†

We got to try out Fromage over the weekend and had lots of fun with it! Our group especially loved the simultaneous turns in a worker placement game so that you're engaged the entire time. We were worried about same-iness, but drafting the upgrade tiles assured new viable strategies each play.

It's always satisfying in UI design to look back at old wireframes next to more polished mocks - like in this snippet of the New Game flow in My City Digital. Working in gray wires helps to focus on the logical layout and flow without getting distracted by visual design. #boardgameapp #indiedev

Working through some My City app icon directions - this is the kind of stuff we can pretty easily A/B test on the app stores (but of course we want a great one to launch with!)

In the video game, you can only see what enemies will do on their next turn. But as you play a lot, you learn what the attack patterns are. This system requires them to reveal enemy attacks further in advance, but that levels the playing field for new and experienced players. You all just plan more!

Since we adapt board games into video games versions, it's so cool to explore the inverse here with a game I know so well. I'm usually trying to fit tons of information from boards and cards onto a mobile screen. In this case they had to divide up a LOT of info across many different components.

Okay Slay the Spire: The Board Game is impressive! The 3 of us have well over 1,000 hrs of the video game logged between us. But the board game still feels fresh & fun! Cooperating as all 4 classes adds a fun new twist and they've adapted the mechanics in a way that's fun but manageable on a table.
