It seems big, but I doubt most documentaries have anywhere near this production or marketing costs. To keep the same example, the total cost of the March of the Penguins was $4M. As a portion of total costs the 137k opening is also bigger.
Having an expectation of $2M for a movie they spent over $75M on between production and marketing is crazy
