Deaf Crocodile currently has a new pri ting of their Shahram Mokri set on sale at 29.95 (normally 54.95).
Give it a peek. If it's your thing, that price makes it a must.
I've watched Ashkan and Fish & Cat, and those two alone are worth the price.

The film addresses the state of current events both locally and in the world, but it works without knowledge of those specifics.
I definitely want to read a bit about what was happening there at the time.
The protagonist lies in a state of delirium, and the very structure of the film reflects his mind, with scenes dissolving and fracturing, struggling under the weight of a new reality where cities could be annihilated in an instant.
While it's firmly rooted in 1948, the themes are still relevant.

Blu ray cover for the film Krakatit. It shows a man walking alone on a deserted road toward a mushroom cloud. The cloud contains an image of a man shielding his face with his arm.

A slice of noir drama in a postwar town where the only economy is from the US Air Force base.
A black marketeer drives truckloads of stolen gravel to make extra money. A police investigator and a woman from his past start the plot down a very grim path.
This is quite good!

Blu ray cover for the film Black Gravel. The art shows a woman's legs sticking out from under a truck that has presumably run her over. Two men are fighting in front of the truck.
Black Gravel (1961)

Hardboiled German noir concerning tensions in a small town with a US Air Force base and the theft of black gravel.

Okay... Leon is doing it more, too, in the later area, so maybe they're just too tired for this shit.
Also, I love that Leon's face is textured like a well loved catcher's mitt. He's been through a lot and has to be getting old. ๐ฎ๐ค๐
Pretty far into Resident Evil Requiem, and I love it, but there's a thing I find annoying.
Grace walks around, making scared noises like Luigi. Sure, I get she has panic attacks and such, but that doesn't cause people to constantly make fragile scared lady sounds. ๐ฎ
I frequently play it loud in the back room at work. It's great music for unpacking a big book shipment.

Cathy's Curse.

Van Damme and Rob Schneider. The camera's perspective has them positioned so a toy figure hula woman's outstretched hands appear to be holding them by the neck.
The same pov is looking at Van Damme and Schneider backed up from behind a desk. The hula toy is now seen as its actual tiny size. A woman's foot is propped on the deck in the foreground.
Van Damme and Schneider with the camera a little higher than them. They're looking up like the unseen person they're talking to is two feet taller than them.
The shots of the power dynamic during the sequence where Van Damme and Schneider are being berated by Lela Rochon.
When Rochon stands up, the camera pov rises much higher than them.

Tsui Hark, making Van Damme look the best he's ever looked.
The cinematography is bananas. The camera is doing all kinds of mad tricks.
Solid gold entertainment.

For a while, it plays as a commentary on the bullying of outsiders. It shifts into pop psychology on wearing literal masks to escape societal masks.
Eventually, the character plot solidifies and settles into a completely different movie.
Trades off on humor and melodrama. Wobbly, but not bad.

I'm sure people compared this to Pulse in that it deals with similar themes of societal disconnection.
Where Pulse sees people reduced to ghosts, Cloud asks if anything is real outside of its tangible value.
One to revisit, for sure.

Kurosawa has been on a forty year streak.
